Girls : Why don't you accept a friend request from a stranger on the internet ?

Question

Girls, why don't you accept friend request from someone you don't know on Facebook, Orkut or GirlsAskGuys.com ?

That person might be good or may not have bad intentions of befriending you ! He may not want to meet you but may just want your company on the website. For instance, just to chat as he feels lonely ?

If "adding a friend" is not good, then why do these website make such a provision ?

E.g. I sent my requests to at least 5 unknown girls on this website. None of the girls have accepted it.

Very disappointing !

Girls ! Please explain.

i say whatever and add the person but chances are the next day

i delete them.

i made two friends on here that are really rad and that's izy and lacy (not their real names those are nicknames) but other than that nowadays, you never know who's on the other side of that conversation.

just like you never know what's in the candy you eat during halloween.

my old pastor's wife had a friend that went trick-or-treating with her kids and the kids were going nuts and wanted to eat their candy as soon as they got it.she kept telling them no we have to wait until we get home to go through it.she was going through the candy and was cutting up the apple and in the apple was a razor blade.

you have absolutely what kind of people are out there and I wouldn't take risks by getting to know some of them.

as soon as someone asks me my name or all sorts or personal and discrete personal information I block them.end of story.

I never accept a friend request from a stranger, fb is for my close friends and family only. I used to chat to strangers on AOL but they all turned out to be perverts, so now I no longer do that, doesn't matter if its male or female. Also I'm not happy about complete strangers viewing my details. I do not believe in making friends online, even if I have met someone once (a friend of a friend) it doesn't warrant friendship. I've had many friends of friends try to add me and have denied every single one. Not once has any of them asked me 'why', if they did I wou;d explain. I'm glad at least you are wondering why. I think you should respect the fact that these ladies don't want to be friends, I totally understand them.

In this day and age one cannot be too careful. Personally, I would turn down a request for friendship if I don't know the person on any level. This website is for advice and questions not dating or friends (the way I see it). It does happen that a few people will meet on here and unexpectedly find more than just friendship. Really, I get tired of all these "lonely" guys that claim they want friendship. All too often has it occured that that lonely guy just wanted more than that. This make me leary of people who come off like this. I am here to give and receive advice not make friends. If I do make friends that's a great perk but really, this is not a website geared for that kind of stuff.

I think you nailed the main reason in your question: They are strangers on the internet.  I think girls get a lot more unwanted flirtations and invitations for cybersex, etc.  When you are a stranger on the internet and want to be my friend, the first thing I ask is why?  And I can think of a lot of possible reasons, and actual friendship is way down on the list.  I add people as friends whom I think share common values or ideas with me, whom I respect and enjoy their answers, etc.  Occasionally I will accept a friend request blindly, but it is rare, because more often than not I find those people to be not my kind of people.  I have found this to especially be the case in chatroom forums that are populated by the bored, perverts, scammers, and schemers.  You don't just send blind friend requests.  You have to establish yourself first and establish that you are not the kind of person with ulterior motives for "friendship".

First and foremost of all, what's the big deal? Does it really matter if they add you as a 'friend' or not? Sorry, if you sent five requests and got none answered, but some girls as well as guys aren't very comfortable with adding someone that they really don't know. And I DON'T mean that to be offensive on any level. Hell, I'm 28 years old and have been told myself what I already know, 'Be careful'. It's quite possible that these girls are just airing on the side of caution in not accepting your friend requests, and it's probably nothing against you on any level~

I don't have Facebook or anything.

GAG is the only social site I go on, because I really enjoy giving advice, and helping people out (the best I can). I'm not trying to find a date on here, or someone to flirt with.I only add those I've talked to (chatted with), or messaged, etc.

I think it's pointless to add random people as "friends" if you don't even communicate with them.

Friends are people we actually want to talk to, get to know more about, confide in, bullsh*t with, help out...

On sites like Facebook, I only add people I actually know. Here, I only add people if I'm familiar with them on the site. If I've never seen a question or answer from you, I'm not going to add you, I'm sorry. That's the case regardless of gender.

But like Shlei3 said, I've had guys who were looking for more than just advice or friendship, and I don't want that, so I'm careful about who I add as a friend.

i'm going to have to agree with misskiss17 and Shlei3 completely. It is basically for the reasons they stated that girls don't add guys. I've done that in the past only to be bombarded with personal questions and sex talk (and not just guys too). So now, I'm pretty wary of adding strangers, I might add them as friends to begin with but the outcome maybe different, whether they remain friends or not.

Accepting a friend request from a foreign man on the internet is scary enough. Many of them claim to be "friendly" and just wanting to talk. But it rarely is ever such a thing.

I think it's creepy if it's a guy who's like 20-30 years older than I am. Or if it's a guy who sends me a message, and he can't write properly. Or say things like: "Hey sexy. Wanna hook up?" Or "You interested in meeting me?"

I also think it's kind of weird if girls I don't know add me. I'm not sure, it's just like that :-P And like the others said, you have to be careful because you don't know who's on the other side.. you know..
