My fiancée tattooed my name and a wedding band on his hand, our relationship has gotten stronger since he did that. He doesn't want to wear an actual ring because he's scared he will lose it, so he got my name and another sort of ring so he will always have a symbol of our devotion. We are dedicated to each other, and believe you work through the problems life put in front of you. You don't just give up because things get hard, you work to fix the issue... like adults do. I don't think it's tacky, or dumb. Not when it's done for the right reasons, comes from a true place with some thought behind it. It's not for everyone, and the beauty of that is the fact you don't have to. :)
Its lack of foresight, lack of advice from the artist, and no it isn't cute. Its stupid.

Most people say its not a good idea because as fate would have it, that's when the relation will go sour and your left with the painful reminder. I personally think that tattooing someones name should only be if the person is a child of yours or has passed away.
Yes it can be a sign of love but once again, if the relation doesn't last, its a waste of time and money wasn't it?
I have three tats; don't put anything on your body your going to want to take off one day. I think it's f'in nuts to even think about putting someone's name on your body. The stupidity aside, It's not cool; it's lame.
