give it time...he cares about you, maybe one day you'll realize that you want to be with your best friend...after all that's what marriage is right? being married to your best friend who knows everything about you and you can tell anything to?
if you aren't interested in him that way then just give it some time, he'll get over it
just don't screw yourself over in the end, because your closes guy friend, in the future, will most likely be your husband..unless you turn gay (no offence)

actually that did happened to me too, don't ignore him! if you do see him as your brother then keep acting like you always have. actually I think I was even nicer to him after that he asked me . proove him that the brother thing wasn't an excuse and that you do care about him, just not in a romantical way... and no it didn't give him any false hopes, as long as you were clear, don't ruin your friendship, true friends are rare!

well ignoring him is a bit childish. These things happen so just forget about it and act normally.
Act normal and things will get back to normal in time. Ignoring him will only make him feel worse
