Do you think they were flirting when they called me names, but don't want me to know that they used to like me?

Ok this is the weirdest thing I've heard. People are always saying that when a guy calls you names, like ugly, he may like you. Why would a guy even think about saying that to the girl he likes? Guys have called me ugly before and I thought they said it because they meant it. I mean why would they say it if they didn't think it? But people told me they were probably flirting and liked me. And I asked them why did they used to call me ugly but they said that they couldn't remember why, but was pretty sure they didn't mean it. Ok, so if they know they didn't mean it, then why did they say they didn't remember WHY they did it? Do you think they were flirting when they called me names, but don't want me to know that they used to like me? But why don't they want me to know that?

I really disagree with most of the answers. In my experience, if a guy is attracted to you he will say you are hot and if he isn't attracted to you and he's a jerk, he will say that you are ugly. It doesn't make sense that a guy who found you hot would call you ugly because that would mean blowing his chances with you. The only situation I can think of where that may be true is if he said it to your face in a joking tone... but even then I would get offended.

I think the only time a person would say someone is ugly when they really thought the opposite is if a girl were jealous of another girl.

If some guy called you ugly, I would not take it to heart or think about it. Just move on because you wouldn't want to be around such a mean person anyway.

I think there are lots of differnt reason on y guys do tht, a lot depend on the type of guy. Some guys just want to seem tough and not show their real feelings, others might be to shy and they could be affriad of wht you will say if they just tell you tht they like you. I think there is also some guys that like to tease. They dotn want to tell you y they did it since I'm sure there reasoning to them even seems messed up, lol. They could be flirtin I don't know very many guys tht would say ur ugly to be mean could just be jokin around also. Guys don't want you to know because there guys! (srry men).

I know I'm not a guy, but I'm just gonna give my opinion anyway. Usually young boys do that kind of stuff. In elementary school, a boy who liked you probably teased you. When I was around 11 years old this one boy would constantly tell me how scrawny and ugly I was, but I later got a love letter from my secret admirer and I found out it was from him because his address was on the envelope and in the PTA handbook lol.

Anyway, I think some guys might not have grown out of that phase. And if a guy is going out of his way to talk about you, you are obviously on his mind for a reason. If he didn't like you, he would more than likely ignore you.

More than likely they were saying cause they liked you. I don't know completely why they do those things. My idea is they don't really know how to walk up to a girl and be up front with her so they resort to those childess things, or they're afraid of getting hurt.

He probly wanted to mess with you. Ever since I was little, I always found angry girls funny. Not saying it was nice, but he may have liked you.

He could have been bored and laughed at how angry you got.

Guys can be pretty immature sometimes, but when a guy is not nice to you, calls you names and doesn't treat you well, don't give him any second thoughts. If a guy is flirting with you he might tease you but won't call you ugly.
