What most guys do for attention. he knows if he gives you little that it will bother you and cause you to give a lot and show all the effort. guys like this are concieted and lazy in a lot of ways, they do not like to chase women or invest in them. they rather it be done to thema nd its selfish. So, what you do? give him little too. Don't let him know it bothers you if you haven't already. or it could be that he is not trying to get to know you. if you are asking more questions then the guy, he has no interest in finding out things about you, not trying to unless you try first.
maybe he just doesn't know how to start a conversation and he's nervous about talking to you so he waits for you to break the ice, and he's really interested in you, so once you start talking he's open and wants to get to know you, he could be your next potential boyfriend! Consider yourself lucky chick ; )
I think he just wants to make sure you're intersted in him and then he is reciprocating back your interest. and yes, like Deeplove55 said, he's giving you a little attention to get more out of it.
What deep love says is true to some extent, but we don't know if he's really playing a game here. He could literally be shy. But then again if you noticed that he was really talkative at the party, then I suggest that he really is trying to have the ball in his court. Some men do know that women get stressed or confused when a guy is hot and cold with his enthusiasm levels.
