Why would a guy push his friend towards a girl?

Today, at highschool, I was coming in a corridor to wait at my class's door with a friend and I noticed he was there too with a friend, about to leave.
To leave, he had to go on my way, so they came, walking in the middle (I was at the right) and then his friend kind of pushed him in front of me.
The guy didn't say anything, looking down and continued walking but going to the other side.

Why?

Hey, this is the girl who posted the question about that guy smiling at me.
It seems like his friend was encouraging him to talk to you, but the guy is a little timid, which is why his friend pushed him. I read the story in the link you provided. It seems like he might be attracted to you, but since you are uncertain, I would wait for him to make a move. He is obviously a little frightened/intimidated, especially if you're the "hot" girl he was referring to. Guys are always a little intimidated by attractive girls.
There is certainly some furtive/hesitant flirting going on, but again, I would wait a little because we are not sure how exactly he feels.

I think that's me who makes him doubt since I showed less signs the day I heard talking about me (I didn't know what to think about him). I was thinking about catching his eyes and smiling. Wouldn't it be good?

His friends also look at me a lot now, whispering and all, but since I didn't feel any bad feeling, I'm quite sure they weren't making fun of me :)

I don't think there would be any harm in smiling. Go for it! :) Just play it cool and be yourself. You could even casually say, "Hi" to break the ice and maybe he will feel more comfortable to talk to you. :D

It would be kinda weird if he looked away when you smiled. If he is normal, he should smile back - unless of course he is really, really, really shy. But I have met guys who are super shy and still smile, so I don't know what the deal is with this dude...
I just hope you don't end up getting hurt.

I'm really shy and I looked away when it happened to me because, this guy was so attractive I couldn't believe he'll smile at me x)

Haha omg- the 'douche ' I told you about his friends used to do this all the time! xD that's a little clue that his friend does to get that guy to talk to you- so its like a teasing kinda way that guys do to their friend when he likes a girl-

The guy probably likes you. Guys and girls both do the same thing, talk about their crushes with their friends. His friend was probably encouraging him to talk to you.

Well, at this moment, I wasn't looking at him, I was looking behind him because I was waiting a friend. But when he came, I looked at him and he was already head down x)
I looked at him after it happens.
