I can't find the clip on Youtube but there is an episode of Simpsons where a girl is interested in Bart but he doesn't like her, and then when she see's someone else, he gets jealous. He doesn't understand so Lisa tries to explain to him:
Now Maggie is in a crib playing with some toy but ignoring a toy ball, Lisa says something like
"Right now, Maggie is not playing with this ball but look what happens when I take it"
And takes it away. Maggie then starts reaching for the ball.
Lisa explains that Bart only now wants the girl because someone else has her: just like this guy is perhaps now getting jealous of someone else having your attention despite the fact he wasn't paying attention to you before, but you were at his disposal.
He's not jealous at all, just insecure. He wants to keep you as a 2nd option to go to if any relationship other than you fails. Basically a sort of rebound relationship. Sorry to say but I've seen it happen before, he just doesn't want commitments.
Because: if you are successful so quickly after he rejected you, it makes him look foolish. Like he thought he could do better, but you're the one who's doing better.
That MAY be what's going through his head.
