Hi Farah :)
You should notice a noticeable change within the first year, remember men achieve muscle definition a lot quicker and easier than women so you need to be cutting out all fatty/sugary foods to ensure you don't pile on fat that is going to be hard to turn to muscle. Arms and legs will show the most progress in a shorter space of time, the stomach will take more work though. Stick at it and try not to lose hope if you don't see change too, you'll slowly and steadily notice the tone building up :)
Good luck! :)
I'm a guy so obviously it's different, but I have been weight lifting for well over 15 months and noticing some really good results. If you get your diet in check and don't dick around in the gym I'd say 6 to 8 months.
