How do you stay motivated when trying to achieve a longterm fitness goal?

I've tried and failed time and time again, but I would like to try to maintain a fitness routine. I have a gym membership but going to the gym after a tough day at school can be difficult. I have the Kayla Itsines ebook.. but I feel intimidated trying that out. I'm not sure if it's better to try it out at the gym, or at home.

My goal is to get a tight and toned body. I have a more 'athletic' body shape with proper curves.. I wouldn't describe myself as skinny but I'm definitely not fat. I don't eat a lot of junk food and I drink a cup of warm water with lemon slices every morning.

Any advice on staying motivated and on how I can maintain a regular workout schedule?
