Because some guys can hog the free weights area in commercial gyms and have a sense of entitlement to it which implies that they think that women shouldn't be there. Or, if they're not openly hostile, they'll assume you want unsolicited feedback on your form - because how could a woman know what she was doing in the weights room? I only started lifting a few months ago when I came across an all women powerlifing club. Only now, after after having received a fair bit of professional coaching at that club, would I have the confidence to tell any blokes offering me unwanted advice to sod off and that I had a proper coach thanks very much.
Disclaimer: I know that the majority of guys in the free weights area do not do this, but it only takes one to idiot to put women off, and, in my expereince, there is usally one idiot in every gym.

I mean maybe they don't want to work out or weight train, they may just want to do cardio. I used to only go to the gym for the treadmill then go home and finish my workout there if a lot of guys were there, because they would stare and try to talk to me if I was anywhere besides the treadmill, I didn't want to do crunches and weights and use machines where I bend over in front of them lol. Some girls may just be self conscious like I was, who knows.
Where I go most females lift weights. Even the obvious runners do a little strength training. But mostly it's probably because they don't know what to do. It use to be thought that if you lift weights you will get bulky, but we know this not too be true.
Also, who cares, if they want to just use the treadmill at least they are getting some exercise.
I think your average girl is just looking to lose or maintain their body fat. Men tend to obsess about having big muscles, women obsess over small waistlines. I've noticed an increase in women weight training though, in the last 5-10 years. Lately it's become en vogue to not only be thin, but to also have a shapely lower body, plus bigger butts are in these days, so many girls are looking to make gains. Many more girls do squats and lunges at my gym, I've noticed.
because they are clearly trying to get a low impact workout in. not everyone is in the gym to bulk up or even tone up. some just want to elevate their heart rate or help the respiratory functions of their body.

they probably just wanted to have a boring run that day.

Because we can do what we want at the gym. But maybe it's also because there's less chance of being stared at by guys when we're in the weight room. Whenever I go into the weight room to lift I always get bothered by guys when I'm trying to do my workout. It's a bit annoying.
It's also funny because whenever I'm surrounded by guys on the treadmill or the bicycles they don't bother me. Because they are really looking for someone to wipe to sweat off of their intimate parts.
They are not really interested in working out.
Just to look their cutest and gain male attention. They do cardio to burn fat, but they don't realize that the machines and weights in the gym will also help them achieve their goals. Most women are afraid of looking too big from lifting weights. They think they'll end up looking like men.
Sometimes they join the martial arts class and just stand there and distract cute guys and pose for photographs.
To be fair, weightlifting is NOT for everyone and there's a lot of dudes I've seen that should stay on treadmills.
Cardio is generally easier for women than weightlifting. Many of us still think that treadmills will only help you lose weight and weightlifting will make us bulky too, so many females prefer running.
Some females are very much into loosing weight and opt for cardio to do so or to help to burn fat. Some tend to avoid the weights as they believe it could leave them bulky. They might do some pilates or body weight toning exercise to tone up. However its a myth females bulk up with weights and it depends on how you use them and what weight you use.
Because those who does that 1) do not know that it won't give them the results they're looking for. And 2) are afraid to train hard.
Because you can use it for hours and hours. If you lift weights - your work out will only last about 3-5 minutes.
That's not always true, I weight lift too. Sometimes when I'm still sore from weightlifting I'll just do cardio that day.
They just want to run, I guess. I used to do that too when I was training for a half-marathon and the weather was sucky. Just put all my energy into running and skipped weights for the day.
They are trying to slim down and prevent from becoming f@t a$$e$. They really don't want to bulk up... unless they do bodybuilding or something...
What females are you paying attention to? I see girls there who work out like the guys do and leave.
I usually go from yoga class > treadmill
Or
Treadmill > weird push n pull machine I don't know the name of > weights and lifting equipmentActually I do a little of everything. Arms, legs, butt, calves, abs, cardio.
I lift weights also but when I wanna focus on cardio that's what I wanna do that day
I don't know why some only use the treadmill. But I crossfit
Simple cardio work out for losing fat.
That has not been my experience.
