How can I help my friend?

My friends dad is diagnosed with cancer today, and he is only going into surgery in January, if the surgery works he has about 5 years to live, if the surgery fails, he has a matter of months, if that long.

Now, when I was younger, my mother died of cancer, and I know how it feels to loose someone I'm very close to, especially by cancer, and its the worst thing to have to go through but he lives so far away and there is no real way to contact him. I'm a senior in school and next year is my last year. I've been wanting to move closer for a while now but I just don't know what to do NOW? How can I let him know that I'm always going to be here for him?

I sent him an e-mail telling him that I am thinking of him and I miss him and that I want him to remember that I am always here for him, and then he replied by saying, Thanks (my name) . I'm lucky to have know you. Big hugs!that good or bad?

Just tell him that you will always be with him.And ask about health of his father so that he will realize that you actually care for him.

It really hurts when someone goes far away from us but life is to lived by a winning spirit.

that's great that he has such good people around him. I would follow up with buying something from the health food store to like hopefully he'll be alright. many prayers. hope everything turns out alright.

Keep in touvh and let him know your there for him (not sexually unless...) he'll need all the support he can get, I'm a widower now and I'm still gluing cracks to hold myself together months later... pain heals but it takes time

Just be his friend from afar. Keep up to date with him via email, but it's great that he said that he was lucky to have you. You're his blessing.
