What should I cook for a friend's dinner date?

My best friend is having his boyfriend over for dinner, and he wants me to cook because I make good food :) I've been trying and looking through cookbooks and everything, just can't seem to think of anything fancy and homemade at the same time. Got any food ideas?

Cook something you do well, that matters more then whether its 'fancy'.

Cook something tasty but not where they'll be stuff afterwards.

Because they have plans for after dinner.

I think gnocchi can be fancy, and there are a lot of variations like sweet potato gnocchi, pan-fried gnocchi with cheese and veggies, etc :)
