How many days in 3 months do you think its too much to miss from work?

My boss is pretty mad at me for missing so much work. In three months I've missed 4 days. One for a funeral, one because I was sick, another because of an emergency with my dog, and the last because public transportation was on strike and there was no other way to get to work.

For all I contacted her before work (for the funeral a whole week ahead) and I made up the days. At my job no one needs to fill in for you, its office work so it just needs to be done in general, no deadlines.

Do you think the days I missed were too many? I went to work extremely sick for about a week before I got so bad I had to call in too.

And the answer is 13. 12 is good, no more than 12.

And no I don't think your boss should be mad as long as the work that needed to be done got done, you made the days up. Maybe she's just a bitch or she's mad about something else?

Any more than one or 2 reflects negatively on the employee in my opinion, extenuating circumstances notwithstanding. All your reasons seem pretty legitimate though. If I were your boss I would understand that things happen.

Any more than one, honestly. I handle my business outside of work so it won't interfere.

How can you handle a public transportation strike outside of work? Also how are you planning to handle a funeral outside of work when its during work hours?

I have a backup plan if public transit fails (carpool, bicycle).

Something like a funeral would be the one day that could have a valid excuse (I said any more than ONE). If people in my life keep dying every month and the funeral is during work hours, then I'm not the only one who's gonna miss the funeral. If it's a parent, my employer would give me a grievance period.

My commute on public transit is 90 minutes, bikes aren't allowed the entire way (plus I don't have a bike thanks to being a poor college student) and I don't know anyone who works in the city and most don't work. It was an important funeral, not some random person. Should I have left my dog coughing up blood in my living room. Also I was coughing so much from my sickness (turned out to be strep) that the xray showed I tore cartilage in between my ribs.

I wouldn't have taken a job 90 minutes away if I didn't have a car, personally. I could keep debating your excuses, but let's just end this discussion with the fact that I answered your question (I think it's acceptable to miss one day in 3 months, but I wouldn't want to)
