What is he waiting for??

Got an older guy that I think is perfect for me and I for him. I thought I was being cute/clever when I said, "how much red is it going to take? I've heard that if I woman wears red, a man is more likely to ask her out. So how much red do I need to buy?" He laughed and never really answered my Q but seemed slightly interested after that. That was nearly 3 mo ago.I see him at least once a week, and it is always nice chats and I fitness walk and see him and sometimes he pulls over to talk- gave me a drink of his water! Problem is he is extremely shy and when people come around he nicely ends our convos and departs. he is so sweet and I have asked him to meet me to sit and talk in places no one will be, but he has a half-good excuse not to. He has 2 teenagers and is a GREAT Dad, but I think he is just too afraid of getting hurt. I send him a text every once in a while- just a little joke or something so he knows I'm thinking of him. He doesn't know how to text back-he's 51 I'm 41. but he does comment when we see each other. We have a mutual friend that is going to suggest that he ask me out. She said he is looking for a "keeper" which is what I am. I just don't know how to keep him talking and not worrying about gossipers-which around here there are LOTS- but he just won't meet me and I am getting frustrated waiting for a move. Any cute/clever ideas so I don't scare him off?

I'm newly divorced and he's been divorced a couple of years. I've heard he has been out with two ladies one time each. His divorce was bitter, mine wasn't. Do I remain patient?- he is worth it, but a girl's got needs too.
