One of my favourites was Henrik Ibsen who made a controversial play called "A Doll's House" detailing the flaws in not allowing women to work and infantilizing them and making them reliant on and subservient to men. It's not that "women are lazy" it's that it was not socially acceptable for women to work and male employers would rarely hire women, they were forced to be corseted making them weak and basically disabled with squished organs and lungs that can't expand, so even if they wanted to they could not do strenuous work. Henik Ibsen wasn't even allowed to put on the play for a long time because it was so controversial and many acting agents wouldn't let actresses portray the main character as it would ruin her reputation in real life.. A woman who wanted to work was a shame to her family. And I'm not solely blaming men many older women wanted to uphold traditions because it was what they were used to as well.

On your first two comments you said that basically women were some sort of oppressed minority who was not allowed to work. But back to females being "oppressed". It was males that took the dangerous jobs during 19th century and before and excepted to do so to provide for their family. there were plenty of women that worked (mostly in poor families), and it was preferably by them to just stay home and take care of the kids instead of being in a sweatshop. The poster in the first paragraph after the title ''What marriage or relationship is'' only mentions that it's a two way street, in which it has to be the traditional way of the man providing and bringing home the money while the woman focuses on being a housewife.
So base on this ridiculous conclusion, does this mean I'll never have time to complete a major and work while at the same time being a mother?
Why should it only be a traditional marriage/relationship? Does the OP have something against women that want kids but also want to keep their careers. Men are able to work and be fathers... why can't women do the same (work and form a family)?
It was not clear but the OP was pointing towards the feminist fight for the supposed 'Wage gap' and how men are earning more.
The point is, if you spend more with family, you spend less with career and hence you earn less. It is a simple distribution of time. Men work with longer hours so they will earn more, have more experience, more likely to be promoted, and will further earn higher wages.
Not at all, but if you become a "professional woman" that would also mean that the man would be working too.
So if you want kids it would mean that you would need to get a nanny, to raise the children for you.
This does have it's consequences in the child mental health and it's future. A child needs his mother, not a nanny. And it's just selfish to choose yourself over the child, if you want to be this professional then you go ahead; but don't make the child suffer for your chooses. Just don't have the child.

I just want to point out one simple fact... (drumroll) ... the law of "alimony" (now called spousal "maintenance") existed "way before" Feminism. In fact, the law of extra-marital "child support" (i. e., the legal obligation to support a child regardless whether the parents are married) first arose in the early 1600s through the Elizabethian Poor Laws in England. Both of the topics you're attributing "Feminism" to "pre-dated" Feminism.
"Feminism" isn't what destroys relationships between two people who are married. The marriage "contract" is what destroys relationships between two people. As an example, consider "at-will" employment versus "contractual" employment. If I have an employment "contract," my position with the employer is reasonably "secure." That means, for as long as I don't violate the terms of the contract, I have "the legal right" to remain employed (or if earlier terminated, entitled to "damages" for "early" or "wrongful" termination; breach of contract damages). So, my "incentive" to make my employer happy or care about what makes him unhappy, or "modify" by behavior as circumstances change is "extremely limited." Compare and contrast with the "at-will" relationship, where my employment may be "terminated at any time and with no reason." Yikes! How happy my employer is with me is really the only thing holding that relationship together, so I have all the incentive in the world to keep him happy.

Because not only can I be terminated if I start "slacking" and objectively (in the "overall" sense) don't "perform" as an employee, I can also just simply be "replaced"! That's right, if someone with more energy, more qualifications, who is willing and able to work harder and longer hours than me comes alone, and they're simply better than me, I'm out of a job!

"The law" is just a set of rules the legislature either drafts, or that judges has shared their "opinion" about through cases (i. e., the "common law"). That "history" of judicial opinions establishes something called "precedent." The whole reason lawyers can give advice and people know how to behave is because the law does not "constantly" change "overnight." The law slowly develops over hundreds of years. "Family law" is a "huge" problem area of the law, because the "rationale" from all the "precedent" was once true in the 1600s, but is no longer true today. That doesn't mean that judges receive bribes or secret instructions from "Feminists" in the mail urging the family court judges one way or another on all alimony or child support cases. No, it's simply a case of the law failing to catch up with the times fast enough.
Take "parenthood" as an example. "Parenthood" is a legal status. "Nature" has no such thing as "parenthood." Nature has something called "biological affinity" (e. g., the "genetic" parent). But, we know that "genetic" parenthood is not the same as "legal" parenthood. People may "adopt" children, or a child may be fathered by one man, but because of the "marital presumption," the "legal" father may be the "husband" of the wife that gave birth to the child. Additionally, "parenthood" may be "destroyed." A mother may either "terminate" her pregnancy (e. g., abortion, morning-after pill), or leave a child at a "safe haven," no questions asked. A "frozen pre-zygote" may either be implanted in a surrogate, or destroyed. So, "biology" has less to do with the "creation" or "destruction" of "parenthood" (i. e., the legal rights and duties with respect to a child) as much as "personal choice" does.
This was not the case in the 1600s. In the 1600s, if a woman became pregnant, pregnancy equaled children. In other words, "to become pregnant" meant and was tantamount to "becoming a parent." Therefore, the Elizabethian Poor Laws made "equitable" sense. If men "caused" a woman to become pregnant, they it was only "fair" that they should be legally responsible for the resulting child (because the presupposition was, that there would be a resulting child, and that the woman had no other choice). Yet, prior to the Elizabethian Poor Laws, "contract law" took care of things like "parenthood" and "child support." The "marriage contract" carried the implicit term of creating "third party beneficiary" rights to any child born "of the marriage" (again, not necessarily the "genetic" child of the father). By agreeing to the contract, the husband was "consenting" to have parental rights and duties "created" should the wife become pregnant (even to another man's child).
You can see the problem in 2015, with following laws that were created with a supporting rationale that was once relevant in 1583, but no longer applicable in 2015. Suppose a man and a woman take their eggs and sperm to a lab, and "create" a "frozen pre-zygote" (i. e., conceive a child). Now, suppose that "custody and possession" of that pre-zygote belongs exclusively with the woman. The man wants to be a father, but the woman say, "You know what, I feel like going back to school, and I'm not ready to be a mom yet." Can the man "force" the woman to be a mother? No. Now, flip it. The woman wants to be a mother, but the man says, "Hey, I'm just starting my career, and I'm not financially stable yet, I want to wait before I'm a parent." Can the woman "force" the man to be a father? Yes. So much for, "if the right to liberty is to mean anything, it is the right of a person to be able to choose whether to bare or beget a child." I guess "liberty" only applies to women, or men aren't people.
But that's the thing though the law changed fast enough for the feminists when they talked about it in 1975, that's when feminism really took off and that's when they set out to change the laws.
Thousands and thousands of fathers being depleted completely later and it's still not changed.
These laws of alimony was set out because they simply couldn't afford a place of their own or take care of the children, that even applied up till the 30's. Females then starting to get overwhelmingly in the workforce during the war, taking on more "manly" jobs. Now Alimony is just a way to suck mens fortune out, while women having no trouble getting a job and even to the fact that more women are in college then men.
It is Feminism that not only allows but still supports these laws, again i can't blame feminism on this 100% since it's a billion dollar industry and people are winning heavily by it. So there is a lot of incentive to keep it that rhetoric going for them when it comes to marriage.

Granted, they do not have a duty "to work." So, even though they each have a duty to "support" the other, it can quickly turn into a game of "chicken." (i. e., I'm going to stay home and take care of the kids, while you can go out to work and "support" me). Nevertheless, the "theory" of alimony is that once the marriage has "terminated," (abruptly), the "dependent" spouse now finds herself in a situation where the "right to receive spousal support" has suddenly terminated overnight. In order to maintain "the status quo," the courts allow the "duty of spousal support" to continue in a limited sense "after" the marriage contract has been dissolved... something once called "alimony," now called spousal "maintenance." (i. e., to "maintain" your spouse's "standard of living" that she has become accustomed to during the marriage).
What keeps "family court judges and lawyers" ... "in business" is not "feminism." "Children" keep these people in business. When there are no children in a marriage, then it's just a simple dissolution of a partnership. When "children" are in the picture, a court will "withhold" a final divorce decree until "all issues" are finally resolved and determined. Because issues of "custody and visitation" are (not directly financial), but important and emotional, spouses usually use issues related to "children" as bargaining chips in order to gain leverage and negotiate other terms like "maintenance" or "equitable distribution of the assets." It's not "feminism" that ties up or complicates divorce proceedings - it's "children."

No fault divorce, I have never seen issues that say money is the problem since there are many tax breaks for married couples and being in a a single house with two working people is much more cost effective then two homes with one bread winner each.

Okay, I sort of understand where you're coming from. However, you shouldn't let your past experiences or other peoples experiences hold you back from finding that 'special one'. Things can go wrong, of course they can, people can get hurt, people can lie - but that happens throughout everyone's life. You just need to find someone right for you. Just think how many people in the world are happily married, living some great memories. The idea of feminism is a great thing. It's changed the roles of women so much and for the better. In most countries man and women are pretty much equals. However, I will admit that sometimes even women have the upper hand. In addition a few of the followers of feminism have turned it into a hateful organisation towards men and women who don't believe in it. We need to see people as individuals and accept that jobs need doing.

Yeah, I understand how you feel. I guess a lot of people don't get married - either because it's too expensive or they just don't feel like marriage means much to them. You could always stay in a relationship with someone but not get married. In that way you get the best of both worlds, enjoy the memories and the company but you're also not tied down if things start to go wrong.

Hmm that was an interesting link and is something I'll have to look into further. But women have more confidence and support now, they're less vulnerable and it's more acceptable for them to make their own choices. Some women have taken this in a good way and have made something of their lives and career, but others have used the support as a way to make themselves richer through their ex-husbands. We need to stop focusing on just men or just woman, and need the start focusing on everyone, individuals. Then we wouldn't have this education problem etc. Also the point about boys not wanting to approach a girl, that's to do with an individual girl's attitude and personality, one girl would've called him a creep and the other would've taken it as a compliment. There's no denying that feminism has changed things and given women a much fairer life chance compared to men. It's not perfect but it's a start.

Yes. Men do commit more crime, and maybe there are more work deaths of males. But how's that connected to feminism? We've done our bit, we've supported the women out there to get to the men's level.

I guess I am a feminist, but no I don't hate men. I'll hate certain people but no men overall. I don't know what started the whole 'men are better than women' but it's wrong and all I care about is changing that so we're equals. Women could own property unless they where married. This also whent for any debt the wife incurred. Men got the right to vote, in the US around 1850s, solely based upon the fact that they could and where routinley drafted into war against there will. Since they where expected to fight and die they where finally given the right to have a voice in the governemnt. This voice was only given to them 70 years or one life time before women. What did women sacrifice for the vote? Nothing. They recieved the privledge without the responsibility attached to it. When women where abused by there husbands it was
common practice to publicly flog them (actual incident of this occured in the early fifties to a man due to the law still being on the books) yet a man who was beaten by his wife or henpecked (called this to trivialise his abuse) was publicly humiliated, usually by being placed on a wagon or the back of a donkey and led through the streets as people would throw rocks manure or anything else they could get there hands on at him. The only crimes women where ever convicted of was murder or infidelity otherwise there crimes where placed in terms that would suggest it to be accidental or that she didn't know any better or any thing else that would remove responsibility (Andrea Yeates killing her eight children comes to mind as well as a woman who killed her two children and claimed it was due to post partum depression despite not being pregnant, it worked). There is a lot of reasons why feminism is a terrible thing. It is misleading and abusive.

First of all, I can't express to you enough how much I hate generalizations. Anyone who calls them self a feminist and is seeking special treatment as a female, rather than equality is not a trues feminist. Do I like the concept of feminism? Of course. Are there problems in the feminist community and flaws in the movement? Yes, there is. Just like any other movement created for the advancement of one group. It sounds as if you are blaming Islam for the bad treatment of women in other countries. Islam does not teach people to belittle women or treat them like any less of a person. You are sadly mistaken. And no, feminism is not the solution. It is just a way to help by raising awareness. And no one is denying the fact that some countries also violate the rights of men and boys.
