Why do people stare at my face?

Question

I am 16 years old and I have some social anxiety. Sometimes when I'm in the store, my body starts to feel like a robot and I forget how to move because I'm so worried about people looking at me. That's why it bothers me that people, guys and girls, stare at my face sometimes while I pass them in an aisle or on the street. It's usually when I don't feel like I look good.. like when I'm not wearing makeup. Do you know why people would look at my face for longer than normal?

Social anxiety is very tough to get rid of, so you'll always feel a little insecure or like people are paying attention to you, how you look and what you do. You'll just have to remind yourself that you are normal, you're pretty and nothing is wrong with you. Tell yourself that these people have more important stuff going on in their lives than paying attention to some random girl on the street. You don't look like a freaking donkey, so they are most definitely not looking at you thinking "wow she's ugly". Get that thought out of your head. People look. I look. Sometimes I don't even notice, sometimes I don't even think of anything other than acknowledging the presence of another person. Also, if you look uncomfortable it's likely that others around you will notice and therefore look at you. It's not a big deal, and you'll have to convince yourself of that to stop your body from feeling like it wants to get the hell out of there back to safety.

Only way to beat this type of anxiety is to confront it head on. Push your limits, you'll feel proud of yorself once you accomplish something out of your comfort zone. Praise yourself, compliment yourself, acknowledge it when you make progress. Remind yourself of how great you are and don't focus on the negative stuff. your attitude will help you, so positive thoughts always.

I have social anxiety, and I promise, they're not really looking at you as much as you think. Most people aren't trying to look at someone else but eyes focus on large, moving objects on instinct. When you say it's usually if you feel you don't look good, that's social anxiety trying to freak you out over something harmless. If they are really looking longer, it's mostly because they spaced and out and you happened to be where they were staring, or they were just thinking about you or your facial expression, not your appearance.

Clarissa am just gonna say right now, you are gorgeous (no homo) so I think people would find that too. Its ok to feel insecure sometimes, keeps you more alert and gives you chance to always strive higher or improve.

I personally think you look adorable! the guys will definitely be checking you out. :) A lot of it is your imagination, people look at everyone it is just that you are so nervous you are noticing! I kind of go through the same thing. Am I right in saying when you move, you don't feel in control and like you are kind of "Fluffing through it" and making a mess of it? haha, I know the feeling. You are just lacking confidence. You are to others how you present yourself, just remember you are beautiful and it will all be ok. :)

Actually that is part of your Anxiety disorder , you worry what you look like cause your around people and it makes you over anxious , your worry what people think and whether they are saying anything when deep down their not. This is totally normal to happen when we have anxiety. I can guarantee you Anxiety is causing you to wonder why people are staring at you when this is just paranoia that is causing this to happen to you. I know cause i have mental health disorders and these symptoms have happened to me in the past.

If your profile pic is anything to go by, with all due respect, you're very pretty. They're probably just admiring/interested, but you're letting your fear stop you from living a normal life.

Pro Advice: focus on your breathing, keep it slow, focus on one person at a time if needed.

Maybe it's just a feeling because you are focused on that anxiety and by other people. When I was young I had the same problem, I was like you. Don't worry about it, keep in mind that people don't know you and son they cannot judge you for anything 😉 Just be yourself.

People look at faces, it's natural, particularly if you have an appealing face. You shouldn't let it concern you. People have eyes and they will use them, that's not your problem. Go about your day, you were not put on this earth for the approval of every random stranger.

Sounds like social anxiety - people generally think that other people notice them more than they actually do; studies have corroborated this.

Psychosis or the effect of psychedelic drugs can make you think that everyone is looking at you when you walk into a room or down the street.
