Before modern times a woman literally could not survive without a man. A woman who was able to get a man to stick around and provide for and protect her had a good chance of surviving long enough to pass on her genes. Women who didn't almost certainly died before having children or she and her children died prematurely. Thus, women who instinctively sought commitment naturally passed on that instinct to their offspring.
So the answer is... it's in their genes.

I think women are obsessed with commitment because of our upbringing and a few of the traditional views that may still exist. A woman might feel like her life would be incomplete or she's just settling without a commitment from a guy.
I have no fucking idea. Not only so many women, but so many men too. It's like the only point of life is marriage and relationships.
