The social media thing isn't something I'd base it on but if he's keeping it a secret besides from that then I'd not be happy with that...
I was kind of seeing one guy but he said it had to be a secret and it made me feel really, really crappy. Eventually I just ended it (then it became all so complicated haha) which was definitely better.

When I first started dating my ex, he said to keep it a secret. He'd walk/talk with me in public but he wouldn't hold my hands or let me tell anyone.
That resulted in many many relationship problems.
I suggest you dump him because 1 thats a major red flag and 2 it isn't gonna get better

He sounds a bit controlling... but he might have a reason. You can ask him why he wants to keep the relationship a secret (did he just break up?). If he doesn't give you an answer, that could lead to resentment and maybe more arguments or something down the line, which isn't good for the relationship. I'd ask him politely to give a reason as to why.
Well I would wonder why, however I never take my relationship status to social media I don't want people in my business.
I thought about doing this. If me and a girl got together and we told everyone we went were going out and then we end up breaking up a week later we would look like fucking idiots. So basically you should wait a week or two and if he still says no then there's probably something going on and you should confront him about it.

Honestly I'd be angry... Because why? I don't know... But it sounds like she's ashamed of having me as her boyfriend? Why does she want it to be secret.
I wonder what the reason is, but she better answers carefully, or I might just go

If you constantly need to ask permission, it may turn into turning all control over to him. That's not healthy for you.
Just out of curiosity, did he just broke up with someone?
