Have you ever cut off contact with an ex right after breaking up?

unfriending and unfollowing, blocking on messenger and phone numbers right after a breakup. is this a bad move?

the relationship I had with my ex wasn't always healthy. we'd breakup and get back together a day after. this didn't always happen but there were times. recently I broke up with him and even though its hard like any other breakup, I chose to cut him off across all of my social medias because I know that if I didn't, we'd end up talking again. I have to be honest, it doesn't feel right at all. can someone tell me this is okay? or if its not I can deal with that too.

You sound confused about your feelings. In stead of making impulsive decisions based on fight or flight responses, take some time to think for yourself and talk with your partner. Ask yourself, why is the relationship unhealthy? What bothers you? Is this fixable or a part of your partner's (or your) personality? Can you deal with this long term?

It only feels wrong because you haven't given time to think about things properly. There are maybe topics you haven't brought up with your partner because you are afraid of judgement.

Anyhow, unstable relationships are never coincidental. They are unstable for a reason. If you keep wanting to break up, it's probably what your gut is telling you to do, but your heart hasn't been able to keep up yet. A good decision is when both heart and gut agree on something. So figure out what is happening. Unblock your partner and try to reach out one more time to REALLY think things through. Talk about everything. If stuff doesn't seem to get solved by the end, and you still feel strange, tell them you don't think it's working out. Only then will you fully realize what the best decision is.

One thing I've learned from relationships and decision making in general: NEVER make decisions on impulse. You'll always question yourself and your mind will never be at peace. Good luck!

It’s a good move if you really want the relationship to be over. Sometimes we have an unhealthy attraction to someone who isn’t necessarily good for us. I’ve been there myself. If you know you need to cut the ties and don’t want back in the relationship, then do it... block him, unfollow him, whatever you need to do. I think, at least in the short term, you need the space to heal from it and sort out your feelings. Give yourself that clean break. It will allow you to see things more objectively. You can always initiate contact later if you decide you made a mistake and want to get back in touch. Immediately after a breakup, emotion will rule you rather than reason, do you did the right thing in my opinion.

Yeah. Kept hold of ex's number for maybe a week after things ended. She had asked for no contact, took me a few days to get to the point of accepting it was over and then threw everything out, deleted number and all messages.
After her i started to date someone, she decided it wasn't going to work for her, i deleted her number very quickly after. Suppose it stops me from contacting them, pshycologically its like letting go

At least it's your decision and you have good reasons. Sometimes it's healthier to make a clean cut.

Yes. But the blocking and what not depends on whether or not the ex is being a pest after I've made it clear I don't really think it's a good idea to have contact anymore, and they keep at it even after I've asked them to leave me alone. I for one, do not contact exes - so no ex of mine would have this issue.

I've always said: an ex is an ex for a reason.

So if there is some sudden shift and I'm someone they desire again or want friendship with - well, they had all that in the package when I was with them. If we broke up it was because either I had a reason or they did, and to remember that there is no need to carry on with friendships thereafter, because for me, it doesn't interest me at all. This doesn't mean I'd be blocking their social media or blocking their number on my phone. It would be a natural cut-off that I do on my own.

It's the right idea. From what you've said, it's a toxic relationship and you seem attached. I cut contact for almost a week, rightfully so and talk to the same guy now. I spoke with a guy and he talked his ex and what he went through and brought up a good point. why am i still with him if the vibe is no longer there? Why am I still with him and not single and going for who/What I really want?

It's hard but worth it. if you feel peace after cutting contact then he's not for you and you have to move on

I had to because she was a narcissist. She would snoop on my pages and everything if I didn't. I don't think it's a bad thing, but it depends on the situation. You explain it wasn't all that healthy. Then I would suggest just let it be over. An unfriend and change your viewing settings could be something you can do. You don't have to block unless they're rude or can't accept it's over, but really it's up to you.

I was the one who blocked my ex-bf from my phone, social media accounts, etc. I even unfriended his friends and family. I just didn't want him in my life anymore. I felt great after doing that. Now, I'm happy 😊
