I was dumped by my ex around 5 months ago and we haven't seen or spoken to each other since I collected my belongings. I checked out this textbook for her a while ago and when I asked for it back so I could return it she stated she'd do it herself. The semester has long ended and I got emails all summer demanding the return of the book. I want to reach out asking if she still has it or lost it but I feel incredibly anxious to do so since she said some rather rude things to me before. Replacing the textbook would cost 100+ and I'm not sure if it's worth trying to get it back from her. Why would she (potentially) lie about going to return it? Should I try to attempt to get it back? If so, what should I say so things don't escalate, or is it better left untouched? Any input is greatly appreciated
Superb Opinion
She may have done this on purpose knowing you’d be responsible for the replacement fee, which is really petty and messed up of her. I would say to just pay the money. It’s really annoying to come out of pocket for 100+ when it’s not even your fault, I know the feeling. I’ve lost a few irreplaceable things to an ex who wasn’t working with me to get my belongings back and it was a big loss.

"hi i'm returning the book today and am coming to pick it up from you, what time is best?" if she doesn't, get the school involved.
