Why would my ex call just to say he's single again?

After not speaking to my ex for weeks he calls me out of the blue to tell me he's single again?Of course my heart skips a beat but a few days later we talk and he tells me that he's not interested in anyone at the moment and is going to stay single for a while...I didn't tell him that he got my hopes up but he did! Is he playing games?Why would he even bother telling me he was single?Also he asked if I had been with anyone else...I didn't feel like that was his business so I quickly changed the subject...I'm confused!Is he missing me?

He might be missing you. Or he might just be playing games. I don't know him, so I can't really make that judgment.

Keep in mind that a lot of guys are territorial about things that aren't even theirs anymore. So he could just be wondering if you'd found better than him, so he could decide if he was jealous, etc.

Hes playing with you and like poking his nose in to see if you moved on clearly he did and if he did you dirty don't go back to him, the same thing happened to me just forget him I know its hard to expically when he calls and texts you but its for the best

I think that's a way of saying "hey, my new girl and I are done. I'm not ready for a relationship yet, but just hold off for when I am". In my mind, that's a game.
