Most cowboy movies depict the main cowboy getting the girl. He wins her over through his charm, sweet smile, hot body and adventures. While cowboy movies are generally correct about this, girls really want a the idea of a country man— a man who takes the best care of his girl and will do anything for her.

Respect for women

Because of their deep connection with their mothers, country boys were raised was to take care of and respect the women they meet. When they finally find their "girl" their deep respect will push them to treat their girl like a princess. Their genuine kindness and hospitality shows how they want to treat her right. As they continue to spend more time together, the country boy will know if she is the "one" to spend the rest of his life with. If she is, he will continue to treat her with respect as she becomes his wife and the mother of their children. Even if she is not "the one", the country boy will break things off but in a respectful and controlled manner.

Big Heart

Small town folks are usually know for their "big hearts" of love for other people. When a girl wants a guy with a "big heart" she wants a man that loves children, the next door neighbors and every person that man knows. She does not want a man filled with hatred for other but rather love reaching out to better society and relationships with others.

A love for animals

Correlated with farming and ranches, the country is a perfect place for men to learn about their love for animals and how to treat them right. Horses, chickens, cows and dogs all come to mind, showing how this country man owns up to his responsibilities to clean and care for animals. This is why girls love a guy with a dog— it is the idea that he wants to take care of a package of cuteness.

Adventurous

The countryside is known to very "outdoorsy" and most girls (at least me) love some time outside, especially as the sun is setting or rising! Girls like the idea of getting on horse-back and riding with their partner through the fields, having the time of their life laughing with the person they love most. The idea of this good adventure draws girls to more athletic activities that both of them can participate in.

Hardworking

Taking the time and effort to improve their every day life, countrymen will spend their time working to clean up their environment and work hard to make their family proud. They are not lazy and will be willing to dust off their hand and get down and dirty. A girl loves to see a man get to work, proving that he is motivated to get stuff done. Because he wants to make his environment better and improve his current conditions, the girl will feel comforted knowing that he is taking care of her.

Distant Troubles

Given the plot to most cowboy movies and stories, the ending concludes in all of the troubles that may have been outside or inside of a relationship will be resolved. Women might see a man riding horseback into the sunset and automatically think out the happy endings in Western movies as the man rides into the sunset with his gal hanging on. This attribution gives the sense that all the troubles that may have been present will be blown away by the dry desert air.

The ideal country man entices a woman to search out her own country man, who will respect and love her through the their adventures in life.

He always looks to self improve himself and do what's necessary to take care of his family and friends to help them achieve thier goals. You've described my dad who died in 2012. Could fix a car, a water line, a weatherboard. Opened up his checkbook when my brother and I needed help, even if we never asked, long after we were adults. Mowed his neighbors' lawns because they didn't have mowers. Jumped up in the middle of the night and grabbed his shotgun if the dogs barked too long... Was a great dancer and singer. He didn't wear the cowboy hat, but he had the country boy spirit. And he grew up in the city, spent summers in the country, hunted and fished. A Renaissance man. I can only hope to emulate him. OH and he grew creole tomatoes..

@meesegoMoo Buy yourself some big earthenware pots and do container gardening. If you only have space for ONE, plant those purple hulled peas. Go to your library and get a book on container gardening. It's actually better than open crop gardening. You'll get fewer in ground pests and fewer weeds. Message me if you want to know more. I've got a few books. Might have one on containers. And my crop space? 20 by 3. Very small. I just pack in flowers and food. I plant flowers that are edible and attractive.

Respect for women:
A number of cowboys are down & out abusive. They learned that from their papa & grandpa. Farming isn't a job for weaklings (as many pampered movie cowboys are, they wouldn't last in real life) in a way. It's tough. You can burn your entire life savings & come out with nothing but dust. The stress of failure, long hours, etc. means that some just don't cope well (or they were, as said, raised that way and don't know better) & they take it out on the easiest target (their wife & kids).

Now cowboys *do* respect a classy well-cultured woman who can hold 'down the fort' & run the family and/or manage the finer aspects of the family business like a general would (aka a strong woman who won't crack like an egg & have a meltdown when things get tough), but some city gal with little manners & less respect who is used to getting what she wants & thinks she'll be swept off her feet would be the joke of the town (quite different than lala land movies/books) before sundown.


Big Heart
Sure country towns are different than big cities where, in ways, it's everyone for themselves & some city folk wouldn't care if a fellow fell dead at their feet. If someone gets hurt or there's an issue we're more than willing to help out.

But get your head out of the clouds. There's a mistrustful sort of mentality in many a country town towards strangers particularly if those strangers stand out like sore ugly thumbs. I grew up country & teeny towns and am always amused how city folk thinks we're a bunch of slack jaws with our arms wide open that'll accept anyone & everyone (that sort usually doesn't last long in the country).


A love for animals
Nope. There's a number of cowboys who are, like above with women, just plain old abusive with animals. They were either taught that way or can't cope and thus take out their frustrations on amusing themselves with abusing animals. I've seen cowboys treat animals like they've less value than mud. In fact, a number of rodeos are the best example of contempt for animals (just money bags on legs) that you can find involving 'cowboys'.

That's not all. There are plenty who'd do anything for their animals including going without food themselves to ensure those animals are fed. A friend owns horses & he's done that more than once himself.


Adventurous
Oh, we're adventurous. And prone to doing stuff that'd make some city folk wonder if we're insane. But I love cowboy & horse movies/books. They're so delusional to the reality of country, farming & cowboy lifestyle they're only good for bonfire material.

Riding through a field with the birds singing & the sun shining, after all, ain't so pretty when the smell of the cows or pigs or horses hits you or the fertilizer or depending on the composition of the soil overturned wet earth never mind "Cowboy Charming" may just be up to his knees or waist (particularly in the spring) in mud-covered pants & boots.


Hardworking
Again a stereotype. There's cowboys & farm folk so lazy you'd wonder how they have got the energy to breathe. And if they're not lazy they're so deep into the bottle it's a miracle they don't go & plant their faces into the dirt every time they stand up. Or they're so ignorant on how to do things it's a miracle they have food to put in their mouths & a roof over their heads.

There are plenty who are hard-working - my city colleagues can't understand why I am up at 4am in the morning, every morning (even weekends), when I don't have to be to work (15 minutes away) until 9 but that's because hard work & work ethic is so ingrained even doing simplistic work compared to country/farm life in a city I do more than the lion's share - but do yourself a favour & don't think that's all of them.

Two guys in the photos would be mincemeat in any country bar frequented by cowboys. May even be seen as gay depending on how they act and may just find themselves in a fight.
And in a fight neither would last 5 minutes cause there are cowboys who are fking an't gonna quit swinging till someone's down & out busted nose & teeth scrappy and even then it may just take others pulling him off whatever fool did the insulting & dragging him out the bar to actually break up the fight.

Not to mention there are some down and out ugly a-face-only-a-mother-would-love & fat-as-a-horse cowboys who no self-respecting woman would touch unless desperate.

Distant Troubles
No. The troubles aren't distant. They're pretty obvious & understandable to anyone who has grown up in the same sort of environment. But the distant troubled cowboy bs certainly sells garbage cowboy books.

Besides most likely ain't gonna tell some sheltered city gal with no clue about farming anyway. Too much effort pampering her needs to make it worth the bother.

Tis a thing or sometimes it is. There's a lot of meth swilling trailer trash out here too that should be shot. You just have to pick and choose. We're not all horse opera types , at least not to the degree depicted on TV or maybe I am and just don't know it. Also there are some brilliant inventors and amazing thinkers in the rurals. There are things out here you wouldn't believe. Away from the influence of the cities and the group think there peoples minds are more free to form unique opinions. There is more genuine and organic thought. Sadly globalism has devastated small towns and communities all over the west, ranches and mines have shut down and entire towns are abandon. I think the solution is a parallel economy that functions autonomously and can ignore the main stream. If you are growing food for a certain group or running a hotel or restaurant or any other business and you have a clientele that is guaranteed to use your business before any other then you have reached the critical mass needed to start your economy and you're back in business.

Seems kind of idealised; city-dwellers have a romanticised view of countryside folk. This romanticisation started as the industrial revolution pushed people towards major cities, giving people the false illusion that "if i grind away in the factory long enough, one day i will get to have the simple country life". In reality, there's just as much bigotry, small-mindedness, and asshole guys in the countryside as there are in the cities. Most city dweller girls would get bored moving out to the country; they'd realise its not the "easy simple life" its sold as in travel magazines and adverts for retirement planning.

All the cowboys I've ran into where outcasts because of there poor manners or sex feinds ridding on hollywood stereotypes. Course I'm a country guy and not all country guys are cowboys. Guess girls in general want far more than they give. For women finding a mate ( guy) is a horrible trade of, while men simply just want a mate ( girlfriend) who love him for what he is , it most often is an illusion , because that infact not what women want , they want a mirage, a guy to change and to rule over, tall and strong but still a guy who o at them blindly, while we men look for a partner who we can make a pair and to make joint decisions. lucky luke seems like an idealistic variant but in reality this doesn't really work that way. In my personal experience most villagers are intellectually inhibited hillbillies and uninteresting. Doesn't mean i dislike them. They're just not the birds of my feather.
