It didn't surprise me at all when my boyfriend and my mom got along really well. I had expected it because they are actually very similar people. However, as time goes on, it is becoming even more clear how much he is like her. They agree politically, religiously (both are supremely religious), on social issues, on economic issues, on basically anything that my mother holds near and dear to her heart. There are a few exceptions, but the resemblance in personality is still striking.
Now, here's the kicker. I don't like my mom. I love her because she's my mother and worked incredibly hard to raise myself and my siblings. I'm still in awe in how she did that and the sacrifices that our father and her made for us. We just don't get along on pretty much any topic. I find it annoying to be around her because she tends to be closed minded, hypocritical, negative, and prejudiced against people who aren't like her. She also likes to be right about everything and believes that she is right even though she gets most of her information from Facebook or uber religious websites. The more time I spend around my boyfriend the more it hits me that he has a lot of the same characteristics that she does. They don't annoy me yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if that feeling grows eventually.
So my question: had anyone had experience with this? What did you do? What is the best course of action here? I really like my boyfriend (dating only 4 months), but I'm slightly afraid of dating a person who I grow to dislike.
