How long do you usually "talk" to someone before dating/being in a relationship with him/her?

I am usually friends with a guy first before I start dating them. I don't really crush on people unless I am friends with them. At least 2-3 months before I know for sure if I want to date them. Making it official, I'd rather like 3-5 months.
