What goes through a guys mind when he is making out intensely with a girl?

I was making out with the guy I’m seeing at it was the first real time we have done that.
During the date he wanted to kiss and be affectionate which is normal for him and then while we were walking we found a quiet place and kissed for a bit.
Later at night we were parked in his car after he dropped me home and we both knew we wanted to do more and made out, it was amazing.
We are shy but at this moment we just let go together and this went on for over an hour, even he commented how intense it was.
I felt the most comfortable I have felt with him and it was just really natural.
He got really into it at one point, he had his eyes closed and kissed my hard and we were grinding etc, but what goes through a guys mind when he makes out with a girl, I’m just curious.

What goes through your mind?
I mostly just get lost in the feeling of it, but then I'll think "oh yeah I have hands. I should caress her or run my fingers through her hair," etc
That's if I actually love the girl. I had a girlfriend once who was a good friend, but whenever we made out I would just think about how long until I could stop making out with her. I didn't understand why people even made out, until I did it with a girl i actually loved.
