Why do men care so much about looks?

Question

Two guys I know who are dating girls have gotten married this year.

It seems these guys marries the girls to help with their visa issues.

One girl was in an open relationship before they got married.

The other girl is living in another city, house sharing with two other guys!

The only reason I can see these guys jumped at the opportunity to marry is because both girls are significantly better looking than them.

Depends on what level.

If you think about getting rejected while asking out, better do it with a really hot woman. If the personality is bad you could always let them know on a date that you two do not match well.

Physical attraction is the first thing that catches the eye on most cases. Leading to investigate further and to see if the personality is good too.

Everybody would pick the same personality but in a hotter body. If given the chance, not to trade up but if two opportunities are present.

It wouldn't be a concious choice either, you just like one more. But you know otherone is great too, but you just don't feel the sexual tension.

Looks are not everything though, just a great plus. And can help get the ball rolling so to speak.

Plenty of great people who weren't so lucky with looks, doesn't make them worse. It's not exactly fair, but that's life.

Because before knowing a woman, their looks is the only thing that attracts us.
If anything, women learned to care about looks a lot because they more or less instictively understood that this is the case. Women have been using forms of makeup and personal decoration, generally how to be attractive even before fire was discovered.
Looks are our main source of attraction towards the other gender, the other aspects of them come out through dating. Sometimes the rest of a woman personality is not even needed as we might be looking for a hookup, so that's also a reason.

A guy told me that a marriage based on looks will not last, and I have a cousin with three very good looking aunts and uncles and all three of them divorced despite good looks and high income and my cousin is by far the prettiest person in my family and she is divorced, my other cousin is very good looking and is half divorced (divorced but still living together) and my other cousin was very wealthy and charming and also divorced, my other cousin was also very fit and thin - skinnier than a Victoria secret model - and rich too - and a wonderful cook - she has had at least 3 divorce scares during her 9 year marriage, at one point her and her husband had lived in separate homes for almost 2 years and were fighting over custody issues, they later reconciled. They also yell at each other and hit each other.

I will give you one word of advice. Men who look for trophy wives are not decent men / husbands. Same thing for gold diggers. Gold diggers do not tend to be decent women. Such relationships do not tend to end up being fulfilling marriages. Both tend to end up cheating on each other.

Millions of years of evolution eliminate the "why" in questions like this. Nature may always have a "why," but we may or may not know what it is. It just is.

Men are obsessed with the visual and women are obsessed with adorning themselves.

And we are not the only species in which this is true. Other animals have similar male/female traits. And sometimes, especially in some species of birds, it is the other way around. The male wears the fancy feathers and the female is attracted to it.

But for humans, men are heavily influenced by a woman's looks and women are heavily interested in making themselves look good for attention. That's why the womens' clothing, cosmetics, plastic surgery, jewelry etc. industry is about 20 times the size of the men's.

It's all about nature and evolution.

Sadly. Many men in their younger years tend to be shallow and never go past a woman's looks. If they were wiser these men would have more standards other then looks. Hence why most women are in the privileged position because they don't have to do much just sit there and look pretty. A typical woman will tolerate an ugly partner because it means he has to compensate by being more dedicated.

However I guarantee you that if they married only for looks then they won't last and your buddies will regret it. I mean, The things I care about and might want help with is very rare to find in women at all. If the plumbing breaks, if the car got problems, if the house needs fixing there simply arn't all that many women who know what to do.

There's the money aspect I suppose but I'm good so long as she caries her own and... Well, then there's the looks aspect left.
