She told me her ex boyfriend raped her a few years ago. I guess this is why she's going to therapy, but of course it could be something unrelated or along with some other things.

I really like her. She's really quite bubbly and quirky, which I adore.

Is she opening up to me because she trusts me? Do you think I should open up in return?

I don't know, it's difficult to tell for sure. And since it was her ex, that means they were together at one point. I wouldn't be surprised if they had sex that she later regretted and through the magic of mental time travel it became rape long after the event. That is pretty common.
I personally don't believe anyone about stuff like that without any actual real evidence because so many lie about it.

If you open up, be careful what you share for a while because women often like to use things they learn to hurt guys eventually. That is why many guys have learned not to open up most of the time. It is often used against them.

Yes, she trusts you. If you open up to her now - very much - it might come off as competing for the attention. I would simply listen to her and understand that she isn't expecting you to solve anything for her. She only wants you to listen and show concern.

I think you should open up too.. And Always try to make her feel safe because it's really hard to trust a guy enough so as to opening about past traumatic events. It will be great if you get involved and tell about yourself too.

I would doubt her story.
Because it was an exboyfriend who was already sexual with her. He would have no reason to “rape” her... it is more likely the ol’ typical rape scapegoat to play victim we see so much of in society.
