In what way does monkey branching differs from cheating, it looks same to me. And why is it only applicable to girls, guys do it too?

Flirting with intentions and giving out your number to others while in a relationship is basically cheating in my book so I agree with you - it also work both ways for guys and girls. I think most guys just don’t realize that they’re also doing it 🤷🏻♀️
Yes its weird that its only about girls like guys can surely also have backups

The way I've heard it used: Monkey branching would be letting the old boyfriend think you're 100% into him while you're already *dating* guy #2. So it's starting a new relationship before ending the old one. Yeah, we can guess she's going to cheat if she's giving her number away.
Far as girls vs guys... men and women just aren't the same no matter how often feminists claim that we are. The number of women who have not even been into a guy at all but let him think that she was is astronomical. The number of guys who do that is low. So it's more likely a woman monkey branches than a guy does even tho yes, there's guys who do that stuff too.
Technically, you haven't had physical contact, and you don't even know the guys yet so there's no emotional involvement. But as I said to a commenter, there's the letter of the law, and the spirit of the law. Why give out your number if you're in an exclusive relationship with someone? If it's not mutually agreed upon to be exclusive, then it's not cheating at all.
If the genders were changed, we’d see no difference. It’s a double standard for sure but it makes sense from an evolutionary perspective.
Cheers
It is cheating (unless previously allowed by both members of the relationship). But it seems like a more specific form of cheating, so I'm not opposed to it having its own term. But I agree that it shouldn't be exclusive to women.
I am pretty sure this works both ways. True cheating is acting on a desire. So giving a number out isn't a act of cheating, but the follow up actions could lead to it
There's the letter of the law, and the spirit of the law. Why give out your number if you're already seeing someone, presuming you both agreed to be exclusive?
@loveslongnails that's what I was trying to say
I think they are telling more about friendzoning for soul purpose of backup
I think this applies to both genders
but the definition written above was just to explain
right, she's basically saying "in case something happens"
ya know, like a prenup
It's the same as cheating.
That means she like more guys in same time...
