Why do guy become friends and stay friends with a woman that rejected them?

My friend is friends with a woman he had a few dates with but she told him she didn’t want a relationship with him ever. So now he says they are just friends who have dinner once in a while. He is seeing someone actually likes him. Is he hoping that the woman who rejected him will one day want to date him?

In my personal experience I'm friends with a girl that rejected me.

I'm still friends with them because she really is a good friend, we share a lot of personal stuff with each other and she's been with me through my lowest point.

It was all those things that made me a but intrested in her overtime, but I'm totay okay with just being friends. I find it better that way when thinking about it.


But like someone else here said I do believe some guys will still be friends with a girl after rejection for the hope that she'll change her mind.
