He referred to me as his girlfriend?

So I have gone on a few dates with a guy and we have a good time. The last time we hung out we got lost and had to call the police for help. When he referenced me to the cops he said “my girlfriend…” but he was kinda far away from me and so I didn’t know if I was supposed to hear it exactly plus I was freaking out from the situation. But like I don't know if he said that just cause it’s easier to explain to someone else that way (instead of saying the girl I’m on a date with) or what?

It sounds like he said it for the sake of simplicity, though he could have also said "my date". Even so, how many dates have you been on? If it's more than three or four, then you ought to define what it is you have.
