Why do some people in relationships flirt with others?

By relationship i mean anything really, be it a committed one or casual.

why has this been normalized so much?

I get nervous around girls and never have been in a relationship. Some girls i like noticed that (probably that i get nervous) and start to flirt with me and later i find out that they have boyfriends, either in the form of committed ones or casual ones, which hurts me.

Whenever i get a crush on a girl now i just assume she has a boyfriend and i dont do anything due to that.

I’m not just blaming girls on this one, a fee of my friends who are guys tell me their stories about how they flirt with others, even after marriage, as if it is something great to accomplish.

Most modern people are looking for Instant gratification; committing to something long-term is scary for them; it means they fear missing out especially when things get difficult. Thus, people need to build a roster or backup in case their current relationship doesn't work out. Also flirting and getting attention boosts people's egos and allows for manipulation to take place.

My personality is just outgoing and comes off as flirty anyway. Just because you are a bit flirty doesn't mean you act on it. Flirty≠instant sex. It's just being playful. If I'm into a guy he'll definitely know it.

I can tell you what some of those girls did. One of them played footsie with me and another one got super close to me until ours waists were touching and put her palm on my abdomen.
In both cases we weren’t even friends, just a familiar face.

Yes this is stuff that you do not do to someone else besides your partner. Like you said, this goes beyond flirting, it’s intimacy at that point.

Sorry but how is this harmless? The last time i checked, flirting means showing sexual/romantic interest in someone so the other person knows that they are interested.

If you are in a relationship and are showing interest to others, i wouldn’t call it harmless.
