Actually less than 10% of men under 60 are under 5'5", I personally know two of them who are married to women and taller than them. Meanwhile nearly 50% of women are under 5 foot 5. I married a man shorter than I am. Also on average men are taller than women. So of course there will be more men dating shorter women since on average women are about 6 inches shorter than an average man.

I live in NYC where there is a more diverse population. The average height for a woman here is not 5'4''. Its more like 5'3''.

Sure, women want taller, stronger, richer, funnier, smarter, &c. That's more or less a given, although there are always deviations from the norm. The question is not really asking that, it's more asking to what extent does height matter.
