I met a guy I really like. He suffers from depression and anxiety. He takes pills for them and was very open about them from the beginning. Things were going well and we were talking about living together but he slowly became distant and started saying things like he's surprised I care so strongly for him and he can't imagine why he's so desirable for me. If someone else said it I'd think it's fake humility. I was wondering if anxiety is playing a part. I've never dated anyone with depression or anxiety and actually have no idea how to deal with it. Any thoughts appreciated.
Anxiety is more than likely playing a role. Maybe have a conversation to find out where his head is at about you guys living together. Assure him you wanna know how he feels not what you wanna hear. People with anxiety and depression are inclined to tell people what they wanna hear.

Unfortunately, stuff like that is just going to be part of any relationship you have with a mentally ill person. Either you're going to have to deal with it or move on. Personally, I would do the latter.
Honestly if you really love and care for him just keep doing what you’re doing. You’re definitely good for him. If he needs some space let him have it.
But just keep loving on him

Yes, his anxiety is controlling his life. You will have to be extra patient with him if this is going to go anywhere.
