Is going to McDonalds acceptable for a first date nowadays?

A guy I met on a dating site wanted to bring me to McDonalds for our first date, which I refused to go. He then told me how women he’s been on dates in the past had no issue with going to that type of place on a first date, that the location doesn’t matters as long as you both are having fun together. I told him how McDonalds dates are low effort and it’s a innapropriate place to bring a date. After I said that, he called me old fashioned and insinuated that I was materialistic.

So, men, do you think bringing a woman to mcdonalds on a first date is acceptable?
And women, would you ever accept to go on a mcdonalds first date?

It's a first date . I remember when I was younger, a first date was usually a cheap meal (burger and fries, or a pizza), along with a movie, or going out to skate, mall, etc... I know times have changed, but damn! It's a first date! You're supposed to be more focused on getting to know each other; not how much he spends on you to eat.  And let's be real: everything is so expensive nowadays, especially food! Heck, not to play sides, but I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money on someone only for them to be using me for a free meal, or worse case, you two don't click and he spent lots of money on an expensive meal. Better still, if you don't want McDonalds, offer to split the cost and eat where you want to: how about that? Not trying to be rude, just saying be grateful and focus more on what's important.  Geez, kids nowadays.

You as a woman are valuable and if you take the time out of your day to accompany someone they should have some respect towards you. I think it’s just a matter of personal taste , personally as an adult I would never dream of taking a lady to McDonald’s as a first date / encounter. But that’s not because it can’t be a venue for a first date , it’s just because I wouldn’t want to take a woman there , it’s not nice food , it’s filled with kids and I can’t exactly order a nice bottle of wine can I? That all being said I don’t see any by it can’t be a venue in other scenarios or with other people it’s just as arbitrary as meeting for a coffee In one of those chain coffee houses isn’t it. What it boils down to those is that it’s just personal choice combined with the desire to have that first date. If people really want that date together the where just does not matter !!

Going to McDonald's on a first date puts you in two position. The first being at best "Friendzoned to keep you from going all postal because the judgment to do McDonald's would concern her. The second position would be an immediate ghost if she put a skirt or daisy dukes on to go sit at a McDonald's. I would do the second action because like she said, "this guy has no idea how to treat a woman... I'm better than this."

Maybe a coffee shop. That way if things aren’t going well. Number one it’s cheap. Number two either person can leave anytime without it being weird. Like going out to eat. If the date is going awkwardly it’s hard to just get up and leave.

Actually, that's a smart way to weed out the gold diggers. I'd personally suggest a coffee shop or something (even though I don't drink or like coffee, but they're super common everywhere in South Korea), but that's just me.

I don't mind going to McDonalds on the first date.

Maybe the guy has his reasons or don't have much money. Some even go on ice cream date. Its cute. Even a walk or picknick is fun for a date, it does not need to be much or fancy. It should just feel comfortable and fun for both.

But I would not like to hear that he have taken other women on McDonalds on the first date. I would feel like he treat all the women the same and not treat me special. As if he puts no effort and maybe he just wants sex and that is why he does not put much effort.

Oh, this asker would hate me. At 64 I rarely "first date" anymore. When I did it was a coke and a hotdog date. THEN and only then if I felt comfortable with her I would invite her to my home and cook for both of us. This Coke and Hotdog date was my chance to get to know her before I spent a lot of money. I have VERY high standards (and still do) and if a female does not measure up there will be NO 2nd date. I make no apologies for being this way either. Yes, there is a lot of male trash out there. The thing is there is also a lot of female trash too. Most of the time you can tell trash by just looking at them and listening to them speak.

Wowowooww I can't believe how many guys and girls said yes. I personally think guys who take out a girl to mcdonalds must amazing in every way possible for this to be a successful date. I'm actually open to girls asking me out by the way, but if she takes me to mcdonalds, she better be fuckin perfect in every other way. Not everyone has the money to go to a nice restaurant, so why not? Have you ever been on a lousy date that wasn't going anywhere and you wanted to bail? At least at McDonald's you won't be out a lot of money plus tip. Of course, if you go Dutch in a restaurant it won't matter as much. Plus you can take all your food as leftovers take out.

It depends, if you’re both in highschool and going with money from mom and dad, sure! If you met in college where you’re drowning in studies and can only manage a part time job, then of course!
If he’s a grown adult without hardly any personal responsibilities… then he probably doesn’t respect or value you as a woman. It doesn't have enough privacy for conversation in my opinion. I do agree with each person paying their own way at first regardless of where they go. I'd prefer to have a more active date, like bowling, pool, miniature golf, or a physical activity and then eat afterwards so you would have a chance for conversation.

First dates are about getting to know each other, get a feel for one another and seeing if you want to progress things.

Burger joints, pizza places, malls, skating-rinks and coffee shops those are first date locations.

Why are those good places? They usually, public, relaxed, laid back and aren’t an upright environment. Good places for conversation.

Personally I wouldn't go for McDonald's cause it's not really an ideal setting for me to get to know someone. At the same time a really fancy restaurant wouldn't preferable either cause it's too formal.
