How do I know when to let go of a guy?

I met a guy years ago and we were only friends until about a year ago. We started kissing and hugging with the intention of hooking up.

I caught feelings and told him but he told me that he doesn’t want a relationship because him and his girlfriend broke up recently. But it hurts to just be friends. Should I move on or stay?

Also, take into account I am 23 and I have never been in a relationship or even a date with a guy. I’m not familiar with these types of things.

You can be friends, but most on, don't wait for him. You could find someone else, I'd suggested reducing contact with him, focusing on yourself and moving forward.

Do not wait, often what happens with waiting is they make you an option when you made him a priority.

Do you have any advice on how I can keep my feelings from interfering with our friendship?

I often have the same issue, it is really about thought control and by reducing contact it can also reduce those feelings a bit.

There is a man I have feelings for, but I reduced contact and haven't seen him for a couple of weeks, so I stopped thinking about him all the time, I still do but it is less now. We do have plans to get together soon though and I have no doubt it will flare up again, but rather than cut him out of my life, I reduced contact.

In the meantime, going to hang out with other friends, maybe even with some other guys and see how that goes.

He does not sound like he is ready for relationship. If it were me, I would back off totally and give him time to heal from his Ex.

I did not say that but I would not touch until I knew everyone was healed and ready.
