Sorry guys, I'm just asking girls because that's relevant to my situation... and since gag stopped us being able to see gender of people who answered this is how I'll have to do it to get relevant results.
Also girls, have you or do you date anyone with the same name as your brother or dad? Or do you know anyone who has/does?
Do you think it's a big deal that greatly decreases my chances? Or is it a non-issue?
What Girls Said
It's unlikely but I don't know that it would be a deal breaker exactly if it was someone I really connected with. Hopefully he'd have a nickname or something though, lol.
Annoyingly we both have the same abbreviated nickname that we go by though. Like say we're both called Benjamin (but we're not this is fake names), we both go by Ben. Or say we're both called Thomas, we both go by Tom. Y'know... so it's a rough one. Although technically my name is the Polish version so I could actually just start going by the Polish nickname version... but it'd be weird because everyone's known me as "Ben" or "Tom" or whatever all my life, so if I suddenly started going by the Polish version of "Ben" or "Tom" (except my actual name) it'd be really weird.
It's bloody typical though as I'm very selective about who I get involved with and it's unusual for me to want to be with someone, so it has to be a person I click really well with and where we're on the same level etc. And in this case it really is... like everything's right except for the name thing.
I wouldn't see it as that big of a deal personally. most names you can shorten like Ben is shorten for Benjamin. most people don't call their dad by their first name but if I had a family member who had the same name as a boyfriend, I would give one of them a nickname.
I don't think it's a very big deal.
