Are adults that use the term "crush" for someone they like immature?

I see a lot of questions from people asking about something their "crush" did or say capped with the infamous "what does it mean?".

Generally, if it comes from teenagers I can understand their uncertainties, but then I see people in their 20's, 30's and fricking 40's talking about their "crushes" and overall sounding like fledging teenagers and not full-blown adults. And sadly I can't help but feel that those people are either lying about their ages, or are actually that immature and have little to no experience with actual dating or talking with actual people.

Crush is one of those words that no adult likes but we find ourselves using it because it is an universal "Feeler Word". Everyone knows what it is and is not to both win and lose in the Crushing game. Seriously Crushing and seriously seeking Relationship is different, however, everyone knows what it is like to long for another as well as be longed for.

I hate is as it makes me feel like a five year old using it but again, both the 5 and 105 year old understands the word Crush in all its usages. I am stuck with it...

You've been going for so long, they even have your order ready or preempt your visit by setting a cup aside with your name and order, to start as soon as you walk in.

That cheerful greeting and consideration taken makes you feel special.

As much as I appreciate service workers, I keep a respectful distance and proper boundaries from them.
I recognize it's part of their job to be friendly and chatty.

It's not a word I would expect an adult to be using. It tends to mean an infatuation with someone unobtainable e g. "the girl had a crush on her teacher" or you might use it if a ten year old says she likes a boy.
But an adult women calling a man a crush is just weird. I suspect these members don't have English as a first language and are using it out of context.

To me, "crush" implies infatuation or "puppy love." Yes, it sounds immature.

I don't consider it to be immature. It is a "playful" way to say that you "like" someone or are attracted to them. And after all, do we always have to be totally "adult" about everything? Why can't we go back to our "younger years" occasionally and say that we have a "crush" on someone?

I always associated having a "crush" on someone being associated with elementary school. I think by high school, no one ever said, such and such has a crush on you!

If anything, someone may have said, "hey I think such and such has the hots for you" or "I think she likes you".

So I was surprised when my daughter said it and she was 19 at the time.

I don't think they're immature but I understand what you mean... at least I think I get it, I'm thinking like well if you're interested in that person, why not make a move? I get it when teens are shy and etc but as a grown person... I don't know

It's kind of sigh-inducing. I agree with @katestar89 but at the same time there's something... weird... about someone in their 30s using the same terminology that my 11 year old comes home from 5th grade with.

Eeeeehhhh... I don't think so? I mean kids use "crush". An adult just goes see if person is available or not. Whatever the approach, don't believe an adult would say they have a crush and still have an adult mind
