What do they mean by nice.. is it a good sign at all. Let’s say why not say kind instead but use the word nice?
Just wondering. Non English speakers dating a English speaking guy!

I am so glad you mentioned you weren't a native English speaker. Because this is very very clear (if you are).
Him saying that you are nice, is simply the word which would commonly be used in that specific context. It may not be the perfect word based on its strict definition. But it is the regular and expected way for a guy to phrase that compliment to someone he is dating. In this context "nice" has all kinds of nuanced connotations. It does indeed mean kind. That is probably actrually a more accurate word for what he meant to express. But it would have been really really weird if he had used the word "kind" rather than nice (simply due to unspoken social norms). If he had used the word "kind" instead of "nice" it would be immidiately obvious to anybody that he was't a native English speaker. It would sound "wrong" to everybody.
It is definitely a good sign. It is a very clear and overt good sign. In this context, saying that you're "nice" is essentially short-hand for "I like you as a person. Your personality."
This is 100% a good sign, with nothing whatsoever negative about it. It basically means "I like you" in this context. Definitely a good thing. In fact even more of a good thing than being called "cute." It's a slightly more meaningful compliment insofar as it is about you overall (as a person) as opposed to just finding your looks or general demeanor "cute".
