Why do some date losers when they could get someone better?

I helped this chick move her stuff from her boyfriend’s place because he was abusing her. The guy has anger issues, constantly makes fun of her. Has the most yellow teeth I’ve seen. Guy is like a 2 out of 10. Guy doesn’t even have a good paying job or a career. And she’s straight up an attractive girl. I helped her because my sister went through that too. So I felt bad. I just don’t get what she saw in him. Now she’s getting a restraining order against him. By the way, I wouldn’t date her now because of her crazy ex.
