Why Do Some Men Stay In Controlling Relationships?

Question

One of the things that made me a diehard fan of Charlie Harper is he dumped Mia, for being a controlling partner to him. Despite his player self, he was able to identify those toxic signs.  Why do men like women to act as their fitness coach? Like, if you wanna stay in shape, shouldn't you eat healthy on your own? And if you want a long term healthy relationship, shouldn't you stop making sexual advances at the women during early dates?

Let's be honest. Charlie wasn't with her to get into shape and live a healthy life. :D He dated her because of her looks and wanted sex. :D It just so happened that in order to keep it up, he succumbed to her ridiculous expectations. What some people will do for a little sex with someone hot? :)

I do know that some people get into relationships and that one person wants them to conform somehow, whether it's physically or spiritually. Usually out of love, the other person is willing to try it. If they find they are happier, then great. But no one should have to feel forced to do things they truly don't want to do just because someone else thinks it's a good idea. If they push, then they're obviously mismatched, and no amount of good sex is going to fix that.

Maybe that's just it. Because most guys AREN'T Charlie Harper. I knew a controlling woman for the better part of a decade before I realized she was this way. I was raised that ALL WOMEN were LADIES. This woman was very subtle she started off very slow and built up over the years. Now looking back on it I see all the signs she gave me. But at the time I had no clue. But I don't regret it. Because like the Christina Aguilera song FIGHTER. "It made me that much stronger, made me work a little bit harder, made me that much smarter, I thank her for making me a FIGHTER". Even if that wasn't her intent. No woman will ever get me like that again.

I’m sure there are many reasons. I got into a relationship with a controlling woman, but not by making sexual advances during the early dates. I stayed in it for so long because I was raised to believe marriage was normally difficult and divorce was wrong unless there was adultery. The controlling ex knew that because of this I had no red lines that she had to respect. Eventually it became unbearable and I got divorced anyway.

Although I understand that it's not for everyone, being in a relationship with a strict, demanding woman who controls every aspect of my life is my ideal arrangement.

Probably for the same reason as some women do. Having somebody's better then having nobody. If there are kids involved, men will likely stay as divorce and child support payments are a killer. When the time is right and they have found someone to move on with they will leave.

I'd assume they either like it or don't know it differently. It's often said that guys look for a woman that is similar to their mum in character so if she controlled the home they look for something similar.

It is difficult to see that you are in a controlling relationship when you are in one. Manipulative people are usually good at distractions.

They might not have gotten over their mums and might still be needing a controlling figure in their lives so that they don’t cross some lines.
