Why do people think if a slim girl is in a relationship with a fat guy, she must be a gold-digger?

From 19-21 I was friends with a guy who was 2 years older than me. He was overweight a bit on the fat side.

We both had feelings for each other.

And I so admired his personality, that I started liking all about him, including his extra kilograms.

He was always sweet, understanding, patient, kind to me. He accepted me and liked me the way I was.

We had wonderful deep conversations. He always listened and I, too always listened.

He never failed to make me laugh.

We never had a relationship, we were just friends but I had feelings for him and he too confessed his feelings to me.

To be honest, I get surprised why people think girls who date overweight guys must necessarily be - gold diggers?

I think they’re just jealous. You have a guy that has qualities that would be seen as less attractive, completely disregarding who he is as a person, and a more physically attractive girl. So obviously she must actually have -insert issue here-. Just jealousy and envy because those types of relationships have what the types of people who say those kinds of things want but cannot have

It’s based on the assumption that girls put more stock in physical attraction than personality and based on that assumption the girl would only be with a guy that (they assume) she would not be physically attracted to if she is getting something in return. That is asserted to be money or other things of value. I’m not saying I agree with that assessment just attempting to answer your question.

It isn't just because of him being overweight. The majority of women are gold diggers, so it is a common reason people give for why a woman is with someone. So many women are promiscuous that if an attractive one is actually in a relationship, people tend to suspect there is an ulterior motive.

i have no idea maybe they're jealous, but it doesn't even bother me. heavier guys are nicer, funnier, way better to be around. just an observation. i look at the personality because looks fade and if i'm with someone for the long haul, what's inside is the only thing that matters, as cheesy as that sounds.

It's not that hard to piece together what glues the relationship between a beautiful young girl and a fat man. Especially if that fat man is also old, bald, ugly and full of pimples. And especially true if that fat man is rich.

So it is assumed like its the first thing that comes to mind.

Because it's not the norm. In GENENAL women prefer and chase men who are in shape fit/ripped. Its hardwired into women's instincts to seek men who are in shape because its an indicator of good genes and survival qualities. Women that date fat men for attraction is possible but it's rare. Most women that date fat men do so for resources or the man is high value as in he has status

Maybe because it’s usually true, you never ended up in a relationship with him or dated him in the beginning only friends first which could have led to more later, so basically if someone dated a guy right from the start of knowing him then it does look like a gold digger since they were not friends first in most cases

I’d date him if he asked me out though… I was too shy to ask him out myself. He always told me friendship is the best beginning of any relationship.

And the day he confessed me his feelings and I also told him I also felt the same, He told me he had to leave for the university abroad and spend time there for 3 years… So, he told me about his feelings a little bit too late.
