Call me old fashioned but I love a chivalrous man. It is just so heartwarming when guys go out of their ways to open the door for you or pull out a chair etc. it’s just sweet you know.
I don’t get why some people are against it. It’s a nice gesture what’s the issue?

It is and it isn't. Hell, even outside of dating, some women will bit your ear off for just being nice enough to open a door for her. I open them for men and women, usually if they're carrying something and it looks cumbersome.
Some people, men and women will do those out of what they consider good manners, opening a door, walking someone to their car or across the street, etc.
A friend of mine went on dates with different women, opening doors and getting them flowers each time. Those ladies mocked or chastised him for it. He was told it made him look clingy or coming on too strong. The last one, his current wife, preferred the chivalrous actions.
There's men that see no reason to adhere to his traditional gender roles like chivalry for women who for the most part nowadays aren't traditional. Quite a few women are entertaining multiple options simultaneously before committing to one and most men don't want to invest significantly into a woman who is presumably seeing other people.
Most women, from what I've observed, don't want that treatment and men on first dates don't like taking risks with people they don't know. Everyone would like a bit of chivalry now and then to show affection but on first dates it can seem overkill.
If you want chivalry you're going to have to tell them that, whether it be on the first date, before you're dating, or on a dating profile. Its the same as liking public displays of affection, they won't know until you tell them.
There’s a lot of reasons. I won’t say that it’s completely dead. But sadly a lot of the men who would do it don’t even get looked at by a lot of women because he’s not cute, isn’t tall, doesn’t make a lot of money, etc. Most of these men won’t even get a chance from a girl who doesn’t look good herself. The men who do it most likely are taken. On the other hand a lot of women don’t respect men here in the west. We’re told women don’t need men, we’re worthless, we can survive w out you. So of course men aren’t wanting to help women or be chivalrous. Men have also had encounters where women barked at them for holding the door open for her. Undermining her “independence.” Besides aren’t those things a form of sexism if men are treating women like this just because she’s a lady? What happened to equality? For women it seems to only work one way when it comes o equality. Whatever benefits them as women is their idea of equality.
The guys I have had relationships with were all gentleman in the beginning and I loved it but the longer we were together, the more rare it became. It didn’t bother me a whole lot but I did miss it. Just so all you guys know, this girl will never lecture you if you hold a door open for me. Just a couple weeks ago, two teenage boys helped me carry boxes they saw me struggling with. I thought that was the nicest thing ever.
It’s not dead at all. Today my British coworker served me the tea and opened and closed doors for me, accompanied me to the car and opened and closed the car’s doors for me as well.
So did the Chinese Taxi driver, he opened a car door for me and held my hand to step out.
Men are as chivalrous as a woman lets him be.
With your leg and crutches, I'm sure they recognized you needed some assistance. Not sure that's chivalry, though it's definitely nice.

Some guys still believe in chivalry and being a gentleman. But radical feminism has dented chivalry. When you hold a door open for women, and they yell at you, not just once but many times, after a while, you get tired of doing it. Granted, not all women do that, many are courteous, but the ones who aren't make us guys not want to be gentlemen.
Sorry to hear that, Tom. Living in the south of the USA for much of the year, I've never had that happen. Most of the time I get a big smile and a "thank you sir", which is nice to hear. But I'll hold a door open for anyone, not just a woman, if the timing is appropriate. It's just common courtesy.

About 15 years ago, I offered my seat to (I thought in my mind, not out loud) a pregnant woman on the subway. She yelled at me, because I guess she wasn't pregnant. It's one of the litany of reasons why I refuse to use mass transit any more. Crime, filth, breakdowns, delays, violence, and wasting tax dollars would be the other reasons.
A more lighthearted example of chivalry would be trying to hold a door for someone when the door opens out/away from you. I never know exactly what to do. Go through first, and then hold the door on the other side? Try to hold the door open with your arm while simultaneously trying to not be in the way as the person/people walk through?

@loveslongnails I live in Southeast US year round. While there are women who smile and say thank-you if I hold the door for them, the "door incident" happens much more often than I'd like.
m Some are some are not, however Simple good manners spoils it. Example over Christmas I held a door for a woman and her daughter to go in front, they entered the shopping area entrance, at the next set of doors (you go through two lots to enter the shops), they just opened the door, walked through and did not hold it for me to grab. They just let it swing closed. Holding doors for the next person is basic good manners, especially when you let them through originally. Lesson learnt do not bother holding doors for women in future.
Men and women are equal. No one gender deserves special treatment. Women do not need affirmative action to get a job because they are just as capable as men. Plus, it encourages creepy and unlawful behavior. Gender Norms are destructive. It's better that a man treats himself better, expresses his emotions, and focuses on his self-care rather than thinking his only use is to pamper a woman. It's creepy and wrong. It's better if men learn to live for themselves.

It depends. Move to Poland it's part of cultural education, as normal as breathing. No one calls it chivalry anymore :D Probably in other countries located in Central or Eastern Europe, it's still alive in this form.
I grew up partially in this culture (and in a few others), but to be honest, I don't really care. It's nice if a man opens the door for me, but if he doesn't, I will do it myself without thinking about it.
Only ladies were entitled to such treatment & now that ladies are going extinct, replaced by man haters/women disrespectful towards men we have pulled back on giving traditional benefits. Just like if you kicked your mailman in the nuts every time you saw him he would stop bringing mail to your house.

now you get yelled at for holding a door open for someone because it implies that they can't do it, and for others they get offended if you don't, so to avoid any issues it is just easier and safer to say screw it and let women fend for themselves.

Last time I opened a door for a woman in public I got a 5 minute lecture on feminism and how I was being misogynistic by not allowing her to open the door herself.

Yeah I know what I mean I s as sways try to open a door for a girl or lend a hand or stand up when she gets up. I feel that most women or feminists are making themselves strong and so independent and don’t need a man to do nice things for her like that is making us think that all women are like that.
These days, a lot of these pansies call out "gender equality" and think you deserve to be treated the way you treat us. I am not of that school of thought. I was raised by a woman to treat women differently. I don't call it chivalry, I call it respect towards women. It should be an every day practice.

It isn't dead, but less men are doing it because a lot of women don't appreciate it now, it seems. Most of the time now they don't even say thank you. Sometimes they get hostile over it, especially young women. So if you're a man, why would you bother? I'm a dinosaur so I was raised to do it and I can't change now, but the younger guys are beginning to see it as futile and abstaining from it. It's like feeding a cat that pukes up everything you just fed it.

As I often say, if you want a gentleman, you have to be a lady. I haven't met many women who had the manners, the attitude, the femininity of a lady.

I hold open doors for anyone. I appreciate it when people hold open doors for me. If I'm standing in front of a door I want to go through, I open it. So does everyone I know.

I open doors for everybody as long as it's appropriate. I always viewed chivalry as getting in fights over a female. I have known women who have purposely enticed these actions. They are not desirable women to me.
