It isn't for me, i dont mind my girlfriend's weight to be more than mine frankly i really prefer my girlfriend to eat anything shed like so she's not starving herself. but I wonder if most guys actually don't prefer the small and petite woman body type or do they?

Definitely prefer a woman to be lighter than me and on the petite side. It's far more appealing to me when I can carry a woman in bridal position up the stairs without a struggle. I'm not the strongest in my upper body so that's much easier if she doesn't weigh more than I do.
One of the first girlfriends I deeply fell in love with had a tendency whenever she met me to sprint and leap into my arms while I catch her and hug and spin around. That would be tough to do without falling over if she weighed more than I do!
My wife and I have very tactful approaches to keep each other slim and in decent shape like offering to go on hikes together and walks and selecting healthier options for dinner. We keep each other both in check this way.
Some of this might be tied to my own strength. If I developed the strength to be able to deadlift multiple times my body weight, for example, I might find my preferences relaxing more. Still, I want any woman of mine to be at a healthy weight (not underweight, not overweight) and reasonably active because I want to enjoy outdoor activities together and see her live a very long and healthy life.
My experience is guys usually like their woman to weigh less than them, but there is always exceptions.
Weight does matter to me, but only if she's obese. There's a certain amount to me that's too much.
