Why do most men simply not care what his girlfriend, wife, or significant other makes financially?

It's simple. Men do not care how much money his significant other makes because he is still expected to provide for her, pay for dates and so on. Women rarely if ever share their resources with their men, but men are expected to share their resources..

We do on the other hand expect her to be smart with her money, and not to be a burden to him, or at least find a way to mitigate said burden.

It’s because of the following:

Most men are (rightfully) taught from a young age to be more independent
Most men biologically have an impulse to be more independent
Men are treated not special just for existing in society. Even if we are good looking. No men are only respected for agency. What we are able to do and accomplish in life. We value respect or safe try and security do we work harder and/or take more risks to make more money.
Throughout all of human history women have depended on men to be protectors and providers. They innately look to men who can do this even if it’s no longer necessary in modern times. It’s subconsciously programmed.
Men want to be respected by other men for being successful and independent
Very few women will tolerate dead beat men. I’ve seen it happen on rare occasions. But it’s usually because the man provides something of extraordinary value outside of money. He has some sort of emotional leverage. Or the woman is extremely inflexible and controlling and wants a “simp” to dominate. Or last but not least the woman is just unattractive and is happy to just have a man in her life (sad but sometimes true)

Any way I have had it long drilled into my head from my parents to ”man up” and work. There was even a time many years ago I had financial struggles and my then younger girlfriend offered me money. I turned it down out of pride and just went deeper in debt. But I have to say her offer was a sign of the true love she had for me at the time. She did care about me in that current moment (things got very tragic later but that’s another story).

Anyway the one huge hypocrisy I really can’t stand in our current culture is some women still feel entitled to money from men and yet demand to be equal to them. I’m sorry but if you look to a man for financial security it’s just a derivative of prostitution.

That doesn’t mean it’s okay for the man to mistreat you. But you have forfeited your right to demand “equality” if you are a western woman who seeks monetary hand outs from men. You are literally selling yourself.

Any able bodied western woman can make it on her own nowadays if she tries. Especially if she doesn’t have kids. However being a stay at home mom is in itself a respectable full time job.

In that scenario the man is providing for his own flesh and blood (his kids). So that’s different.

Because a provider has never been what a man has been attracted to in women.

Human attraction is not based on pragtism. It's based on what we as humans have been genetically programmed to find attractive in others. The traits in both men and women that have historically made them most likely to pass on their genes are the ones that the opposite sex tend to find attractive in them.

Men of the past who were strong, capable and smart, and protective of their loved ones, were far more likely to live long enough, and be desireable enough to females, to have sex and pass on their genes to their children. And the children of men like that were more likely to survive and live long enough to pass on their own genes.

Likewise, today's women are the genetic result of women of the past who were most likely to get pregnant and raise children to adulthood who were themseves healthy, well adjusted, smart and capable. Those women were healthy and attractive (so they could attract a man to have sex with them), kind, unselfish, and nurturing (so they could be good mothers to their children and raise them to be good, successful adults who had a good chance of passing on their own genes), and loving, attectionate and loyal (so they could actually KEEP a man around to provide for and protect her and her children).

Notice that nowhere in there was there any mention of a woman being a provider. That's what women are attracted to in men, NOT what men are attracted to in women.

I never paid attention to a girlfriend's income or finances. But I didn't give them money or pay to support them, either. They weren't leeches. I did pay for most dates but I didn't even think twice about that. I wasn't afraid of being taken advantage of.

Since I've been married, my wife and treat both of our incomes as if they belong to both of us. Our combined incomes pay for our bills and lifestyle and contribute to building a future together. We're on the same team. We are trusted partners, as well as best friends and lovers who admire and respect each other.

Of course we can buy things without the other's permission, but we discuss our activities and usually know what the other is up to. We always discuss expensive purchases, though, and reach consensus.

Assuming she makes more than she spends, that's all that matters, because I'm not going to be the one making up the difference in her unsustainable lifestyle.
