Well, if you borrow some books from the library or even lookup the same question on the search engine, there are many reasons why people would want to study away from home.
1. They want true independence away from their parents mostly. This is why many start drinking, smoking, partying having premarital sex, and perversions because many want to rebel. While these are two different things, the reason still correlates to each other.
2. For somebody like me, it would probably be to get away from the toxic abuse at home with little to no contact. Some kids and young adults came from abusive homes and the only way to escape is to talk about it so you can build something for yourself. Once you graduate it will be hard for you to live on your own and your subject to the same thing again.
3. CORRECTION! Some campuses do NOT offer the same majors, classes, or student resources and activities as the MAIN CAMPUS unless career center-oriented places. You have to do extensive research to know where to go. Online is not the same as onsite, just like University of (fill-in-the-blink) is NOT the same as U of ______, New York campus say for an example. This is one thing I had to think about before choosing a college, campus, and major I wanted and needed. My campus is limited compared to the main one. And while they had extended their online classes, the onsite will always be preferred as I wanted to do. Your peers have to do what is best for their education. You have to do what is best for you. Because are you attending college for your peers, or yourself? Because the grades you get are going to be yours. The GPA you have is fixed based on what you do. Your professors are going to look at you, not your peers.
4. Like the book from the Uchic College guide, let alone any college guide for girls or even students in general. People want the dorm to feel that college offers. You meet new people, is tested on your ability to live alone. And they want to feel like they have the freedom and own space. Going to college from home is not the same as living on campus. That I can say as an off-campus student. But will go dorm at some point in the future when the finances are there.
5. The food may taste better than other places.
6. Atmosphere and environment are different.
7. Others have their own reasons that have nothing to do with college: dating, sex, parties, making different friends, or following their friends.
But when others do not have the same luxury as your college may offer, that is not the case for mine and others who attend college.

To become your own person.
When you immerse yourself in a new culture, you don't want people weighing you down. Regardless if you have a good relationship with your parents, they probably have some outdated notions of the world.
Maybe they're the type to tell you to only stay at one company forever, or maybe they think that trying that yoga club is lame and not manly, or maybe they constantly police what time you get back home, even if your class actually ran late.
When you go to college you get to try new things, meet new people, make mistakes and sometimes you can't do that without your parents or hometown friends judging you for it. Again, it depends on your personality. But money can't account for the connections you might make (pro tip they start paying off about 2-4 years after joining the workforce), the mistakes you might make, and the late nights spend partying.
Probably because they want to live away from home. I went to a community college at first and then when I was 20 I moved away to a University. I was very eager to move away, so I can relate. However, right out of high school I was fine to be at home and going to community college.
There is much to learn while in college and only a fraction of that learning occurs in the classrooms.

Some schools have specific programs that don’t exist in other places. I picked my school largely because of the music program, which is one of the most selective and well known in the world, and which allows me to tour every year with one of the choirs. (And I mean an actual tour, with big paying audiences every night, which the ensemble members don’t need to pay for - not one of those tours that some ensembles take just for fun).
Some campuses also have different social environments. One thing I love about my school is the fact that people just trust each other. They leave backpacks, computers, and wallets lying around for hours. (In cubbies, not in the way). Nothing happens to them. I like being able to trust people.
Finally, I just wanted to get away from home. Explore new cities, get to know a new part of the country. And be independent, away from my parents. I love them, and I call them a lot. But I wanted to do something on my own. That's a good question. There is something to be said for living on campus and being immersed in college life, but the cost can be prohibitive
If you have to take student loans to live on campus, DO NOT DO this. This is a horrible use of debt.To put some distance between them and their toxic parents who they still need for college expenses. I dont have time to keep up with people from high school, the real world changes you
It can be because they want to be on their own, away from their parents. It could be that other colleges are supposedly better. It could be because of other persons attending that college. There can be many reasons to why people want to do that.
In my opinion, it’s all about finding the best place that excels in your chosen subject matter. Coupled with the best facilities, best living arrangements and out of college activities.
To have a reason to get away from your family and parents and be on your own.
Some people really like the change of environment from what they’re used to at home
Some people want to get away, experience new things, not everyone wants to stay close to home
Get away from your parents party make out with cute guys (or girls)
For most people it’s the experience of going and living on your own for the first time and having that independence you won’t have living with your parents
A lot of people want the feeling of freedom away from their parents.
Because the quality of the college matters. If you live next to a low quality college it's better to go away from home to a decent college.
You do not have your parents nagging you constantly.
Easy, get away from parents to have more independence.
