If I just lost my job but they say I could try to get it back if I talk to them and explain the situation, should I do that or try for unemployment?

My job just sent me an email stating that I've been suspended from work and cannot return unless I write a letter explaining the reasons for the mistakes I've made with the job. Then they will decide if I can come back or not. If I don't respond at all, I'll be terminated.

I just started the job 2 months ago and honestly don't even like it very much. I feel like I would be happier not working there.

So should I even try to get the job back or is it better to just accept being fired and go on unemployment? I think I would make a similar amount of money either way.

I would try for unemployment but there are tons of people State Wide in the USA but all I know is people are behind and haven't got their unemployment yet my opinion is to try for another job cause unemployment is down for a lot of people and @Flower7 I'm sorry for @ToastyOats with his offensive opinion to him and I have reported him Flower

I'm really sorry that's happening to you, I can imagine it can be a really distressing and something that ruins the weekend. I hope you are at least a bit serene and not letting this completely ruin your day.

That said, your employer's behavior with that e-mail is sketchy and borderline manipulative... they want to fire you, but they are willing to take you back if you beg them to? Sounds like a way to have better control over you and put you in a bad situation... really, I get a bad feeling the more I think about this situation - if you go back there, they'll probably hold this over your head and make you do unpaid hours, or cut your pay or some other kind of bad surprise. Their behavior is sketchy as heck - you either fire someone or you warn them that their place is at risk and motivate them to improve, you don't fire them and then ask them to beg you to hire them back.
I'm not sure about laws in your country, but in mine is something you could sue them over.

Anyhow, my advice would be to quit them and go for unemployment while you look for something else. Or if you aren't really sure you'll be eligible for unemployment and really need the money, try to get the job back but look for something else at the same time, and as soon as you find something bid them ''adios''! I'm really sorry you are finding yourself in this ugly situation, but don't give up hope - jobs come and go, and I'm sure that you'll find something better and where they treat you as a human being.

Read the guidance about employment with them specifically about work performance (you should have access to their intranet page?) have you joined the union or have access to an advice bureau? Do write a letter in response stating facts avoid stating your feelings and avoid writing about your disappointment. Have you previously had informal meetings about your work performance? If not, say that this is a complete surprise to hear as you haven't previously had any informal meetings about your performance in the 2months youve worked, also that you have good relationships with your colleagues and senior staff. As it has been 2months you can ofcourse mention briefly about progress but dont talk about competencies. Mention that you would have benefitted from regular catchups to discuss a better work balance. I was in a 6month contract and in the last month my employer did the same thing to me, i wrote back to them as above. I left quickly and jumped into a job straight away. Every short contract involves bs and if i didn't jump into a new job i go on unemployment and look for work with agencies. So hand your notice in after youve written the letter (check if you can give a week's notice), ask for a reference join agencies immediately as they need references from your manager, join unemployment. Look for a new job. Any help im willing.

You are better off getting it back then leaving it altogether, and get screwed from not being able to land something else (that's what HE said). At least this way, you still have something until another opportunity opens up for you. In certain fields in certain areas, employment is still difficult to come by because of Corona. But try and get it back, and in the meantime put some feelers out there (again, HE said), and keep at it until something breaks.

But at the same time, even a letter won't cut it depending on the offenses. If you p. m me with details of what happened, I can most likely help you on a personal basis. I have been shown the door NUMEROUS times over the years for bullsh** reasons, and I could give you better direction

I'm guessing as you've only been there for 2 months you're still in a probationary period? Otherwise surely they should have had an employment disciplinary review? I don't know how employment law works in your country but in the UK you can't just send someone a letter to fire them, there has to be a disciplinary review where they explain to you where you need to improve and give you the opportunity to put your side of things forward and then do better pending a further review. This is not the case if you are in a trial or probation period and they can let you go without warning as per the terms of the contract.
If you were to write to respond to their letter and you did get your job back where do you see the job taking you? Maybe you try and go back so you are earning but use the opportunity to find other work. Although there is something to be said about not having a job to put a firework up your ass to find a job.

If you were terminated for cause you may not be able to collect unemployment. What reasons did they give for your suspension? Probably best for you to find something else.

If you don't like the job go on unemployment. Try to find a new career. That's why a lot of people aren't going back to their jobs. It's a great time for a career change. I walk outside and see stores and restaurants that say we are hiring everywhere. That's because nobody wants to go back to making poverty wages. Most people got a better job or are studying for a new career.

Flower, I suggest going back if you can, and then look elsewhere in the meantime. Getting suspended and then terminated will look shitty on your record. I would suck it up and try to stay on and look elsewhere for a job your like

First of all if you are fired you can not draw unemployment. They need to lay you off not fire you. If they offer your job back and you don't take it then that can also disqualify you from unemployment. Sometimes it is not as easy as people think it is to get on unemployment. Your case may be different though.
