I mean why should people even make decisions or learn to distinguish truth from falsehood? We have the government for that. They will just decide what is true once and for all and then delete the other half of internet.
And then the other party comes in, deletes the first half, because that is then going to be false for four years. And we will live happily ever after.
Seriously, one of the major advantages of the internet is wild experimentation. You can't regulate your way to a better world. If anything, we need to loosen the rules in regular education, let schools do odd things here and there and let the parents decide where they send their children. Vouchers or cash or just attention, customers should decide, not bureaucrats. And for children, their parents are the customers.
Children should be generally restricted in their online time until they can handle it. But not because low quality youtubers but because the whole thing is addictive and damages the dopamine balance. Once a teen is old enough to be online without supervision, they are old enough to handle bad content as well, whatever form it takes.

Considering there are many college graduates with fancy degrees that are no better and hold positions they shouldn't, no. A higher education =/= better morals or common sense.
I think a lot of the wackiness on social media is mostly for shock value and attention as well. That kind of stuff gets more views than someone talking sensibly. I know there are certainly legitimately crazy people with insane ideas out there, but I think they're a very loud minority that most people don't agree with for the most part, and some of these others cash in on the opportunity to go "viral".
The good and bad thing about social media and the Internet both is that everyone has a platform to voice their opinions, so the crazies that no one would take seriously in real life get the same opportunity as everyone else to spread their opinions to impressionable people, with the added benefit of being able to mask a bit more about themselves and be more deceitful. The majority of people on social media also tend to be naïve and impressionable youth (and even some older people with these qualities) who are quick to believe what they are told without applying common sense and thinking it through, or doing their research.
I think people are just going to have to work harder to teach their kids to use their judgment wisely and critically think about some of the stuff they're being fed online. It's also good to encourage kids to engage in hobbies outside of social media and not spend too much time on it, as I think excessive time spent on it can be damaging in many ways, including feeding insecurities and worsening depression.
As much as I hate the affect the internet is having on society and the younger generation, this is where I feel parents should be more proactive, involved in their children and the content they are viewing on social media. Morals and values are something that should be taught/instilled in the home, not by schools/social media/society...
Nah, dimwit troglodytes and boomers do much of the "poisoning" in the digital world.
What you don't seem to understand is that the process of becoming a high value Youtuber, or social influencer etc, isn't random or peerless. The platforms and advertisers curate these people carefully. The process is actually rather democratic in that the people themselves subscribe or unsubscribe of their own volition. It's usually a quick fall when they go against the norm.
In other words these, people are behaving exactly as their backers want them to. It's actually nobodies like anti-vaxxers, peddling shit that they hope will stick and get them a "following" that are the cause of most problems. What you actually mean to say regarding that "certificate" is that some lowlife PTA/HOA karen/kevin gets to have an input in who makes it big.
It's just one of many reason I laugh at you, I suppose. You place too much importance on small minded people having big ideas.

No. Independent and critical voices are important, limiting people who want reveal their opinions online with "certificates" and "morals" will lead to censorship. People have the right to hear pro and counter arguments to build up their own opinions.
1. Public schools and many colleges are indoctrination machines and many people are okay with that. Why not skip the line and indoctrinate now?
2. It's on the parent to control what's on their kids screen just like watch TV shows/movies, or watching porn. It's not the networks fault
3. There is no certification standard to use and would at best effectively be a way to make sure all influencers share the "right" ideas which defeats the purpose and more indoctrination
Let's act like we care about freedom of speech and believe parents are responsible for their children. Sure, some influencers should be more responsible. It's not their job to raise your kidsI do agree that a lot of these icons are either pointless or not really offering the world anything useful, but I don't think requiring them to have a diploma or degree is a good idea either. If you do that, then you'll hold back all the other good icons out there who have a wealth of knowledgeable or uplifting things to give everybody.
Plus, the sad part about the bad icons is that they usually already do have a school degree or certificate. They're just posting useless or poisonous stuff because they can.No. I'm more interested in addressing corporate-controlled mainstream media's business model of lies, manipulation and propaganda. It produces no truthful journalism at all.
So I'm all in favor of social media's open forum to explore every thought, theory and point of view. No, they are entertainers, no other entertainer was ever tested for his moral standpoint or what so ever.
You can write books, make music, videogames, ... and the only line stopping them is wether they find a platform/sponsor paying them or when its reaching a level when they are breaking the law.Dude.. they are not jobs.. Also you REALLY dont want them to learn actual rhetoric because it appears Americans in particular are super susceptible to people putting ideas in their heads such as what Donald Trump did. Making influencers professional propagandists and public speakers is a TERRIBLE idea
They should be held legally responsible for any advice they give. They should be clear what they are and are not qualified to advise on.
Schools have already taken it upon themselves to teach our children their version of what's moral. I'm more concerned about who gets appointed the job of Moral Police. Parenting is the answer, not censorship.
No, it wouldn't be a solution, because having a college degree isn't a guarantee of good choices and good taste. If half of Americans have a college degree, how sure you are that all the members of this half are the intelligent ones and the members of the other half are, all of them, inept, untalented and unable to think for themselves?
There's a lot of money to be made in that industry and where there's money there is usually a formula for making it. So there's a possibility that in the future we will see "Influencer" as a major in college.
The Golden Rule: the person with the gold makes the rules.Lol no. If you don't want your kids watching it then don't let them.
Parents should make an effort to keep their children off of YouTube and social media. Then this wouldn’t be as much of an issue.
Can you give examples of them poisoning the kids? Because a lot of times, if it's stupid, it's stupid and they get negative votes for their contents because growing up, it's parenting and school that gives them morality experiences. After all, social medias are inanimate objects so every kids have the choice on how to use it. If you wanna blame those brain washing influences, why don't you blame it on parenting not giving them proper guidance?
It's a continuation of a bigger issue. Parents not actually parenting their kids and passing that responsibility off on who ever or whatever they can. For example parents pushing the education system and especially teachers to parent their kids. But we are not suppose to call out shit parenting for the reason a person is shit person. We are supposed to blame the media, schools, internet, influences and everything else but their parents and their shit parenting.
If you want to get given bad information by certified professionals, just use the regular news media instead of YouTube.
A class or degree basically means nothing in this regard.A school degree for what? talking? the reason they are there in the first place is because they dont want to touch that student loan debt... no one does lol. I dont want to give an institution my money at a premium rate for little returns. that's why I am now considering an apprenticeship where I can get paid and educated at the same time.
Personally I don't think that Influencers should be restricted like that just because parents don't like their children consuming their content, yet do nothing to stop their children from consuming said content in the first place. I agree that social media can very well have negative effects on kids, but also believe that parents that care enough to complain about it should also care enough to keep it out of their child's reach.
No, there should not be an academic requirement.
You would be a Democrat, based on your desire to be a controlled slave and for a tyrannical state to micromanage the lives of the population.
You would be happier in North Korea, or Cuba, or Venezeula. No! That’s an unconstitutional restriction on free speech
Some of them already do, while some don't. But honestly in my opinion I don't think so, it's free will, if they want a degree go for it and if they don't then they shouldn't be forced.
