Can you stretch your brain and intellectual ability with training?

When I first started high school, my brain was exhausted from the change in academic pace and I would often fall asleep after just 20-30 minutes of math homework. In my last year of high school, I had no issues with exhaustion from doing work.

When I was new to university, I would fall asleep after 1-3 hours of text book reading and in my last year, I was able to memorize 700-900 pages in 3 days. I once memorized the entire course readings for class during the 3 days before the first class began and usually devoted less than an hour to the course readings each week since I memorized it all during those 3 days.

Recently I made a new intellectual achievement on a research project I’m working on and I was totally exhausted just a few hours ago, my exhaustion lasted around 1/2 to 2 hours. I wonder if God is improving my abilities again.

Using your brain does improve your abilities. It makes new connections and stronger connections. Your brain is plastic so that it can adjust to various situations.

I once read that our intellectual ability is one of the few things we can physically train and improve on naturally for our entire lives... now I'm not entirely sure how the process works, I imagine by pushing your brain to work harder than normal by exposing it to a higher workload, and by exposing it to abstract concepts, the brain can certainly develop exponentially. I would think sufficient rest is also crucial in the process as well though.
