That simply means that among all the data that has been analyzed, this company found out by doing the math that the average age was the one indicated.
However, among those people, there are perhaps a greater number over 45, some perhaps even in their early sixties.
In other words, no, you are not too old to pursue a job in data science. You will simply not be able to practice that job for as long as someone that does it when they are in their early twenties.
Furthermore, how reliable is that company you are referring to and are they the only ones that do market analysis?
