Is it embarrassing that I am 28 I have a bachelor's in psychology and I am going to start working at a fast food place?

I graduated a few years ago with my bachelor's and had a very difficult time finding a job in my major. Honestly, I didn't work one job for my major and I applied for other jobs someone with a high school diploma could work at.

My newest job is working at five guys burgers and I feel embarrassed a little, I'm working cashier. I feel like it is below me and even my hiring manager expressed as much when she hired me.

I feel embarrassed considering my age and that I even have a bachelor's. But I need money and I have to pay off my loans.

You have to do what you need to to make money, but honestly a field like psychology requires more schooling than just an undergraduate degree. This is something that should have been thought through before picking a major.

Yeah I knew I needed a master's but I thought I could work a bit before going back to school.

Having experience which is a thing jobs are requiring. Where do you get experience when no one gives you a chance? Even with a master's degree

Why not get a certification to become a counselor while you work at the restaurant? Mediocre counselors make upwards of $20/hr and sometimes more. If you have a degree in psychology, you are probably not that far off from getting certified in another field.

Oh yeah I applied for my master's and waiting to hear back if they are accepting me. I applied over a week ago so not sure how long the process takes.

Unfortunately that's pretty common for psychology majors. Just remember that any legitimate job is better than no job. Maybe you will be able to have another chance at a useful degree one day.

I'm going back to school for my master's and hopefully can get a better job then. We used to live in a time like 50 or so years ago where a college degree guaranteed a job. It's not like that anymore even with connections. Times are different sir.

I can't just go into an engineering major without going to school for it first. You could teach me all the stuff but none of that matters if I didn't graduate from a college showing I have a legit degree in it. Plus I don't want to learn "coding" I was interested in computer science a few years ago before I got my bachelor's in psychology but I also enjoy psychology and I'm not that great at math.
